Because I Said I Would

Oct 22, 2016 - 4:51 PM - by Diane Likens
Diane Likens's Avatar On Dave's veteran's discount thread, he mentioned tipping 30%. That got me to thinking about the social movement Because I Said I Would and the promise I made to myself in the early days of the movement.

Every time I dine out at a service restaurant, regardless of the place, time of day, type of service, etc., I tip 100%. Because I Said I Would. I try my darndest to get away before the server realizes, but every now and then I get caught. On the rare occasion... [Read More]

Christian Businesses

Oct 22, 2016 - 4:02 PM - by Greg Farra
Greg Farra's Avatar I didn't want to derail the thread on Church based businesses, so I thought I'd bring this up: what are you experiences with business that advertise themselves as Christian? Should a business advertise as such? What are our responsibilities as owners if we advertise we're Christian? And I'd prefer we not go into the same-sex wedding controversy, that's a whole other thread!

Update: Bible stories with my daughter

Oct 21, 2016 - 9:11 PM - by Emiko Cothran
Emiko Cothran's Avatar I have been reading to my six year old daughter from the kiddy Storybook Bibles she has. At the end of each story she gets to answer a question or two. If she gets them right she gets an M&M (or a candy corn), she loves this game! (Because of the candy). We read a few stories a night on most nights!

Her grandpa (her main babysitter) is a very, very stanch athiest who makes fun of religion and wouldn't be caught dead near a church. Her aunts amf uncles range from athiest... [Read More]

Since Esther most often works in the church kitchen

Oct 21, 2016 - 6:18 PM - by Jim Franklin
Jim Franklin's Avatar she brings home a lot of left overs, in fact our grocery bill would be a lot higher if that wasn't the case.

This morning I tried something a little different. Country sausage gravy over left over garlic bread. I enjoyed whether anyone else will.

Military discounts

Oct 21, 2016 - 4:31 PM - by Dave McClung
Dave McClung's Avatar Long ago, when I was a child, I remember that many businesses offered a "clergy discount." My dad, a Nazarene pastor, would never ask for the clergy discount, but when it was offered, he accepted it. I am unaware of any stores that still give clergy discounts, but "military discounts" are frequently offered.

I served in the military 45 years ago. I still have a military ID and qualify as a "service related disabled veteran." My disability is... [Read More]
