What action can the denomination legally take if a church does not pay it's budgets?

Dec 02, 2016 - 3:11 PM - by Greg Gates
Greg Gates's Avatar The reason I ask is because it seems different districts have different punitive steps they take against churches that don't pay their budgets.

Some districts do nothing whereas other district superintendents will declare a church in crisis and replace the pastor.

But that is in the US. In Africa or Central and South America isn't it pretty rare for any church to pay anything towards WEF? If so, how are those churches/ pastors being treated differently than their... [Read More]

Help needed to find a church.

Dec 02, 2016 - 12:09 PM - by Brenda Redshaw

I understand that most on the site are in the US, and few if any from the UK, but generally, if one is a looking for a church in the UK and will have to move there because there are no local CotN nearby, how would one go about finding the most suitable one, where l could maybe attend once a month within reasonable travelling distance and staying overnight in a hotel in order to assess where the Lord wants to send me?

The Light Between Oceans (2016)

Dec 02, 2016 - 10:03 AM - by Jeremy D. Scott
Jeremy D. Scott's Avatar Saw this movie a couple of months ago. It was pretty good.

Check out the trailer for the general premise.

I appreciate movies that make one wrestle with decision-making, what's right, etc. This one had a theme along the lines of Gone Baby Gone, but is certainly a much, much different movie. The current television series This is Us also comes to mind. The general question is: to whom does a child belong? Does a... [Read More]

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Dec 02, 2016 - 9:56 AM - by Jeremy D. Scott
Jeremy D. Scott's Avatar I was anticipating this movie for a long time. It did not disappoint.

I have long leaned heavily towards nonviolence as a result of my understanding of the path of Christ. The fact that this movie is based on true events makes for a powerful example.

The thing about Desmond Doss as portrayed in the movie (and seemingly, true to life from the documentaries out there about him) is that he was just doing what he thinks was right. He was not on a crusade to prove to... [Read More]

Arrival (2016)

Dec 02, 2016 - 9:15 AM - by Jeremy D. Scott
Jeremy D. Scott's Avatar Saw this last night. It was good, but not as good as I was hoping. Amy Adams was good, as usual.

The reason I didn't like it as much as I hoped was that there was never so much a moment of AHA! clarity that I was expecting. And the thing they tried to clarify at the end has so many holes in it that I was left wondering if I was missing something (I don't think I was).

The score is absolutely beautiful, focusing on Max Richter's "... [Read More]
