So what do you think of the following article? I'm curious.

Why does it matter?

I think it sounds like a college president trying to improve the quality of the schools athletics program. In the overall scheme of things it doesn't matter, but to the school I'm sure it does. Seems like a reasonable move to me given the current record of the team.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, Gary. Given the guys record, I'm curious as to why they gave him an extension after last season. I'm just not sure why it matters to us? Are there a ton of closet Liberty University fans here that I don't know about?

Good Point. I really don't care either. However, one of Nates best friends goes to school at Liberty, but I doubt he has a clue what the football team is doing.

I think its about a University making a change in its football coaching staff.
Am I missing something?

The article contained the following paragraph:
Karcher was in the first year of a four-year contract. He signed an extension in December despite three losing seasons in his first five years.
Regardless of whether it is Liberty and Falwell, Rodriquez and WVU, or other numberless combinations, this is what caught my attention. If he had 3 losing seasons in 5 years, why was he given an extension? If he was in the first year of a four year contract. I believe this is pretty much cutting his legs out from under him. On one hand giving a glimmer of a vote of confidence while almost immediately snuffing it out. It isn't a coaching problem as much as it is an administration problem IMO. brh

Maybe the Christian grace was in extending his contract when he had had three losing seasons in five years. But they then realized that despite the hope, things weren't going to turn around. So they decided to let him go.
Christianity does not require that we keep people on in jobs they are not able to do.
I am sure that they paid out his contract in some way.

Not any different really than what happens at our own denominational colleges. I wonder what the financial drain the athletic programs cause at say Olivet, SNU, MNU, etc. I know football is a very expensive program to operate.
What bothered me most was when my son was at SNU and they started their football program, the football players received financial aid my son couldn't get. My son was an honor student, but there were some football players they would bring on campus who couldn't hardly pass a class. Yet they got perks my son couldn't get. The money that our own denomninational colleges waste should be examined. Is is right to waste money on an athletic program that most likely is losing money while asking churches to pay their educational budgets every year right?
At least Falwell discloses how much his athletic program loses every year. Do our colleges disclose the same?

It doesn't, Barb? Really?
That's too bad, 'cause that was the ONLY explanation I've been able to come up with for why we re-elected Bush last year. :basic05

Excellent point, Larry. The only assistance I recieved at a Nazarene University was $800 for working as an RA. Money/hour worked? Pathetic.
Too bad I wasn't a baseball/volleyball player. I wonder how many of them are in church now?
