1850? That sounds a little early in the history of baseball/Cincinnati. But, they have been known as the Redlegs and the Red Stockings.
Just checked. . .the Red Stockings were the first professional team and their inaugural year was 1869. Additional names included the Outlaw Reds and the Cincinnati Porkers (circa 1880's).

Bill, brother if it weren't for the Red's there would not be baseball. They were one of the first major league teams and that is why opening season in years past always started after their first game.:fav16 not sure if that is the case today. I used to work at the Cincinnati Enquirer in the 1970's and as an employee always had tickets to the World Series, that catch was: we employees could not attend, we had to give our tickets to family. What a bummer.

In 1901 my dad got an offer to play for the Cincinnati Red Stockings at 16 years of age. He was quite a catcher but his dad a Methodist circuit rider before he joined his friend Dr. Phineas Bresee as a Nazarene, did not abide by playing any sports on Sundays. I have a ball glove with Ken Griffey, Jr. personally signed autograph on it the summer before he went up to the Mariners.
