Here are two pictures of a bullsnake I picked up off the road in the Texas panhandle.

There is no such thing as a beautiful snake.

Question....
Why are you holding that harmless snake so far away from your body?
My only encounter with a bull snake was when three of us were picking blueberries, and a bull snake was comfortably resting on a limb of one of the bushes.
I simply pushed it off the limb and it slowly crawled away.
One of the other pickers decided she had picked enough berries. :o)

Tinker is a curator at the Houston Zoo. Read about her here: http://www.houstonzoo.org/tinker-boyd/
Her family does a special feature at the church one Sunday a month called "Tinker's Ark." They do a presentation related to animals and then she concludes with a quick spiritual application. It's becoming a favorite Sunday morning event.
A few weeks ago their presentation started with their two daughters fishing in the baptistery. They hooked a very big and old fish that had a story to tell!

Hmm... so I guess you Alvin Nazarenes are into snake-handling?? Very interesting!
Thanks for sharing, Scott and Tinker.

This one just happened to have a bad attitude. He did eventually get me too.

Tinker,
ENC has a snake-handling team (http://www1.enc.edu/News/2010-News/Germantown-after-school-kids-visit-the-jungle-with-the-Animal-Caretakers-Team/ and http://www1.enc.edu/News/2010-News/Top-Ten-Reptile-Reactions/). The young woman in the green shirt is my daughter. We are trying to arrange to have Prof Twining out for a weekend for children's day at church - he's bringing the animals, too and we have to figure out where to keep them overnight.
I was at one of their shows and after handling the corn snake felt much closer to God. :)

We had the ENC Animal Caretaker Team at church last weekend. Prof Jon Twining, Amber Wiersma (a recent ENC grad) and my daughter did a great job of sharing their animals and talking about creation care. Besides the animals pictured below, they brought hissing cockroaches, a carpet python, some worms and beetles.
a ball python

509
a bearded dragon
511
blue tongued skink
510
Chilean rose haired tarantula held by Prof Twining
513
Over the course of two days we probably had at least 10 new people stop by to see the animals.
The animals all stayed in our garage.

Doug - We are working with Prof Twining to have the team come in the Fall. We'll have an event Saturday evening and then Dr. Twining will speak on Sunday morning. I'm looking forward to it.

Jen sang "Revelation" while holding a snake during a downpour - gave a whole new meaning to "all creation sings"
