Nelson, that means you can put your own SIM card in it, keep your phone number and still use this other phone in stead of your old one.
A SIM card is a very small card inside your cell phone that you get from your provider. It defines the network you will be using and your phone number.

That explains it!
I now know I do not want to purchase a cell phone w/o the SIMS card.

Well, not necessarily! If you see an Ebay phone you want and if you already have a phone with a sim card, you can buy the phone, put your card in it and be ready to go. Or, if you are going with a new carrier you can do the contract, take the free phone they give you, and then use the sim card in your fancier Ebay phone.
Or - you can even go to a cell phone company and buy just a sim card for a low price and use your ebay phone with it.
However -- be SURE to verify with your Ebay seller that the phone is "unlocked" and will work with the cell phone service you are buying.
By the way, I bought my wife a pda cell phone without a sim card, then took the sim card out of her old "candy bar" phone and put it in the new phone. Worked like a champ!

What I really did was buy - but you sold me, Scott.
Ordered mint condition cell-phone for $9.95 - (shipping $14.95!) - should be here by mid-week. I'll stash it away and use if my current cell kicks the bucket.
So THANX

Ha! I was pretty much in the dark about the sim cards till a few weeks ago. My Sprint phone doesn't use a card. When Jackie's pda quit working I wanted to get her a phone/pda to use and it was then that I started trying to figure out sim cards.
Just between us, and don't tell Nelson, if you just go to google and type in "what is a sim card" you will get lots of interesting information!
