In August 2009 we were approaching our 10 year Pastoral/Board Review. I started a thread and Dave McClung, Secretary of the Calling of the Pastor Commission commented on the intent of the resolutions adopted by the 1989 General Assembly regarding the Pastoral/Board Review. I greatly appreciated his comments and am glad that I saved them in a word file. The comments were lost in the crash and I am reposting them. I feel they are a valuable resource that should not be lost.

Dave McClung commented on the Pastoral/Board Review Thread - August 2009:

The four year review was never intended to be a "pastoral review." It was supposed to be a review of the relationship between the pastor and the church with accountability on both sides.

As it has been implemented, the burden of proof has shifted on many districts so the subject of the review is strictly on whether or not the call of the pastor shall continue.

Still, the current system is better than when we voted on a pastor every year.

I just went through a pastor/church review a few months ago. It was very much a review of our relationship, where the church is, where we need to go, etc. What Dave said it's supposed to be. :)

That is great Rich. It is good to know that it is working like it was supposed to.

We have been at our current church for 10 years. Before we came the church had five pastors in ten years with only one pastor staying until the two year review. There were quite a few people at our church that actually thought Paul changed the procedure for the Pastor's vote. I guess all those years of having pastors not stay until the two year review put the church about 10 years behind everyone else in experiencing the changes implimented in 1989.
