Hey there,
I hope that there is someone out there that can help me with this problem. Here for about a week now, every time I try to open Mozilla I get a not responding message and it sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries to actually get to my email. I have all these messages to end program and I am clicking forever!! Have checked Mozilla site and it doesn't give me any help either.

I'm assuming you're talking about Thunderbird and not Firefox.
Try this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Application_not_responding

It hasn't been a week, but it has been a day or two now, since I was on-line and a note popped up that Firefox had downloaded an "update," and it would take effect the next time I opened Firefox, if I didn't close it right then. Well, earlier today I let Firefox close down, and then when I went to get back on, and I'd go to "File," "New Tab," it would open the tab in the same window. HOWEVER, how-many times when I'd then go to the drop-down list and click on something to open in that new tab that just says "Untitled" until you tell the browser where to go, it would pop out of that window/tabs and open another WINDOW!! (that it has not been told to open!) 'Seems to me that somewhere in their "update" they've got a glitch that needs to be fixed, because it worked better before whatever "update" was supposed to "help" whatever. :( [don't know how to go back to a former version, either, and not get things/bookmarks/etc all messed up, unless there's somewhere in the browser to click to do this and I've not ever seen it before ... ??]

You can modify the tab opening behavior in Tools -> Options -> Tabs.
I have mine set to open new pages in a new tab.
According to the release notes of the latest Firefox update, there were no updates related to tab functionality -- only security fixes.
You do know about tabs and the "middle-click" right -- clicking with your scroll wheel? If you middle-click on a link it will automatically open it in a new tab.
Also if you middle-clicking on a tab will close it.
And, CTRL-T opens a new tab.

NO, I am talking about Firefox--I don't have Thunderbird.

OK. I'm confused then.
How are you checking your mail? Is it Yahoo! Mail or something like that?
It could be a problem with the mail site.

Yes, I've known about "tabs" since I've had Firefox, but thanks, Adam. This is the first time I've ever---unless telling it to use MSIE for something that won't do Firefox---had Firefox open a new window, so my other tabs were not there, when I've told it to only open a new tab. That's why I bro't it up ... it was really weird!
Now, today, when I tell it "new tab," it does it. So, I don't know if it was the first time after update installation it decided to do that, or if it was the re-opening of it that did that. Next time I either have to close it or it closes on its own (via that "not responding" note it does before closing itself), I'll find out, eh! ;)

Yes, I have my home page set to my gmail account. It doesn't happen all the time--just enough to be annoying. It will tell me that Mozilla Firefox is not responding.

Firefox+Gmail, oh, OK.

Well I emptied my cache and that seems to have helped matters. LOL--at least I hope so!
