Our church recently purchased a domain name and I presently am moving our web site to another server out in British Columbia, Canada.
I am working on the web site and just the basic layout is there now and many more pages and add-ons to do so many of the buttons and links do not work as yet. Trying my hand at CSS.
My question to networking tech people is to why I get a "not found" about every 3 days I log in when I haven't been there within that time ?
Is it because, my browser is emptying its cache or is it because the domain name hasn't gone down all though the internet network and therefore because it is new, is not registered yet on all servers?
I had heard it takes awhile (how long?) to get to every route in the network...am I correct in this thinking?
Address is: http://www.trentonchurch.ca or http://trentonchurch.ca/
I signed my life away to get that .ca address...what a lot of red tape and reading!!! Anyone ever try to register a .ca address?? You would think the .ca was made of gold.

Can't help with your question, but GREAT domain name for your church! Way to go. The website is shaping up well, too. Good work.

Should only take 24-48 hours for a new domain name to propagate.

It sounds like they are having server problems or DNS problems. You should not get a "server not found" from any fault of your own. I have to get to the shop, but I'll either email or post some ways to check out the network later.

I have been examining your situation on and off since yesterday morning. It has timed out for me several times. From Texas I am going through Denver, then Seattle (savvis.net), and it dies periodically at Peer 1 Network. I notice you used TuCows to register. Do you have the ability to change your DNS server listings? Your site is resolving to ns12.1-mecca.net (72.51.24.224). It is almost at the bottom of your list in your registration and might not matter. Also that server might not have good bandwidth. You are not listed with Network Solutions, which isn't a good sign. Somehow you need to point a more visible DNS Server to ns12.1-mecca.net or if it has problems have them put you on a different server. If you click on the start menu of your computer and then on run, then type "cmd" (without quotes) to get a prompt, you can enter the command "tracert" (no quotes) then a space and then your site (trentonchurch.ca), then enter. This will give you a list of servers you are going through and the time it takes for each "hop" to get to your page. Personally, I purchased a DNS service so that I can use another host to place what they call an A record on their server to point to my host server. Tucows might allow you to do that for a slight fee. I am paying less than a dollar a year for that service plus my domain registration fee to my registrar. You have a great site; I hope you can iron out DNS problems. Let me know if I can help you.

I don't think this is a DNS problem. At a prompt, I typed in "nslookup trentonchurch.ca" and it fired back the IP number for your server. I think you have problems with your host. I'd contact the people that are hosting your site and ask them why it is timing out. That just shouldn't be. Some servers are old and need to be upgraded, just like any computer. It might be a 486 on dial-up. (grin) Good luck, Bob Wright

Thanks to all! I called Mecca and they are looking into the situation. My line here is not all that great and it went through 18 hops on a trace, timing out in Seattle.
I'll let you know what the problem was... - Bob
