If I had a way to make the movie "Amazing Grace" mandatory for everyone to see, I would do it in a heartbeat. It far exceded my expectations and was a tremendous account of a historical process. At the end of the movie, my emotions got the best of me. I sat there thinking about the trivial stuff I'm involved in...trying to get people to do various good things, allow space for other tastes and differences, etc. Contemporaries of Wilberforce and Newton were immersed in a huge issue...getting rid of the blight of slavery in the British empire. It was very clear to me through the movie that we are recipients of the blessings of people who paid a dear price for freedoms so common these days that the sacrfices of those who advocated for them are simply taken for granted.

Please find where it is still showing and attend!

Wes,

I'm glad that you posted this. I had wanted to ask what it was like, but I couldn't even remember the name of the movie. My m-i-l wants to take the family to see it.

There are several comments on the film in the Movie Review forum.

I also recommend reading "Amazing Grace" by Metaxis. I am only through a couple of chapters but the introduction provides some truly wonderful insights into the significance of the transformation that Wilberforce was a part of.
