We love the work that the Eastside Mission is doing. I've volunteered there once, and my mom has been there 3 or 4 times now. She's a retired nurse and will be going up monthly, now, to do blood pressure and blood sugar checks on people if they want them.

I didn't know that it'd been on TV. That's pretty cool!

Thanks Joanne.

(hey - where in Mich ARE you anyway?)

If you want to be really official it is Eastside Compassionate Mission, Inc. The founder and his wife were recognized by one of our Flint TV stations as the Hometown Heroes of the month in March. Bill Burdine, the founder, is now retired but his wife Barbara is serving as the director of the mission.

Do check out the mission site on the Internet. There are lots of programs going on. I have served on the board for several years now. The trunk of my car has a supply of Easter baskets, some donated food and some candy that I will take over on Tuesday when Barb will be there. (Lunch on Monday is served by a volunteer from the Catholic Church on the opposite corner from the mission.) Good Friday, teens from First CON will be going over to help set up Easter baskets. Saturday will be Easter dinner. There will be Easter baskets for everyone and a delicious ham dinner cooked by Barb.

One of the men from my church was at the New Life CON that meets at the mission on Sunday afternoon to speak about the work of the Gideons and to pass out Bibles to everyone there. Normally the Gideons do not pass out Bibles when they speak at a service but this was a different situation.

Enough of this. I could go on for a long time talking about the mission!:fav16

Virginia,

My brother, Tim, is a mail carrier in an area of Flint that has a couple of senior citizen housing apartments. I wonder if he is your mailman? Do you live in senior citizen housing?

Virginia lives near my school so I don't think so. And she doesn't often check NN.
