rides into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, amidst waving palms and cries of Hosanna, but soon to be utterly rejected and deserted by those He came to save. Jesus, the One who left the beautiful portals of glory to trod the dusty streets of Galilee, the One who left his throne to be born in a barn, the One whom angels attend and the One who sacrificed all that He might bring us into fellowship with Him......was ridiculed, rejected, spit on, jeered at and put to death. I suppose some said, "He sure was a loser." But God has a way of turning things around. What did the scripture say? He that is last here, might be first in Heaven? That makes being like Jesus not too awful does it? Wouldnt you rather be first in Heaven and last down here?
After all, what does popularity matter anyway? Its not being popular thats the greatest in God's kingdom, it is faithfulness. Hob-knobbing with the big names here is nothing compared to walking side by side with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Shaking hands with the President would be wonderful, but feeling the Everlasting Arms beneath you, lifting and supporting you is so infinitely better.
So dont ever forget that the One who was rejected, rose from the grave! Dont forget that the one who was spat upon and injured really won because He forgave those who did these things. Always remember the Lord's attitude when someone like Peter denied Him, because much later after Jesus rose from the grave, He said, "Be sure and tell Peter." These kind of responses to an injury and rejection really makes the man in my opinion. It shows you what a person is really made of! And, sad to say, there are really few men today of this kind of caliber.
Consider all the things that were done to my Lord. Spat upon, ridiculed, injured with a spear, offered vineagar when He thirsted, thorns dug into His brow, nails through His hands and feet, rejected, led as a sheep to slaughter, and much much more, yet He opened not His mouth in vengance or to get even. Lord, help me!
