Many of you know our home is furnished with auction buys. We have found some amazing things. Our antique mahogony diningroom table we purchased for $180. Our three piece black leather livingroom we bought for $1500.

One of the things I love the most though is my floor lamp....that I bought for $2.00.

It's very unfashionable, probably from the forties or fifties? But when I sit in my big cozy chair and the light from the lamp shines, I am transported back to my childhood.

We always had lamps like this.

Whenever I am in the livingroom, this one gives me a contented, nostaligic feeling. It's unfashionable I guess...but I love it.

Barbara, I like your lamp very much. We had one like that when I was growing up so looking at your picture brings back memories to me also. "Fashionable" is whatever a family likes, in my opinion!!!!

I clicked on Quote, but Barbara's words didn't show up as a quote! This is Barbara's quote: It's very unfashionable, probably from the forties or fifties? But when I sit in my big cozy chair and the light from the lamp shines, I am transported back to my childhood.

Does the stand have ridges in it? I think we might have had one like that when I was a kid.

Yes it does, on the pole part.

What's unfashionable about it? I think it looks nice! What is so neat about today's decorating style is that you create your own style -- I love that. I love having things around me that I love. In fact, I'm trying to pare down my house to where I only have things that I love -- not just THINGS.

Speaking of lamps -- I still like the lamps I chose for our bedroom 18 years ago when we moved into this house. However, they were quite-- well, WORN, I guess you could say. So I gave them a facelift when we re-did the room. They still need new shades, but I'll get to that later. They probably aren't "stylish" but they are in MY style! So, enjoy your LAMP!! It's YOUR style!

EDIT NOTE: I actually should say WE. I want our home to have things in it that WE love (not just ME). So when I say I, I mean WE. I mean, even when I say I, I'm thinking WE....it's a partnership thing. Get it? HA HA HA

I like to say that I have an eclectic style :-)

The auctioneer at the auction house we haunt says that he has learned over the years that some people have the ability to look at what is being offered and "see" it in their homes...and how it will "work" with what they already have.

He says I am one of those people. Since he has been in our house and seen the results I would like to believe him. :-) Mind you...he could be just wanting me to keep coming to his auctions. I am a good customer.

Carl bought another floor lamp the other day for $10.00. It needs some TLC but he asssures me he will get at it.

I love it when that happens!! You see something and know exactly where it will "work" in your home.

Right now I'm working on how to make Ebony's DOG KENNEL (a huge monstrosity of a thing) FIT into my lovely RED family room.....without spray painting it red, of course.....LOL There was a time in my life when I would have been horrified at the thought......but now.....well, Ebony is part of our family, and having her means having that HUMONGOUS dog kennel as part of the "decor." I'm growing.....I'm really growing....LOL
