I am speaking about the message of Easter. Back home, my father raised white leghorn chickens. They laid eggs that we washed, candled, and packed 30 dozen to a crate and then sold them to stores in the city. However, once in a while, there was a chicken who was a sitter. That means she not only laid the eggs, but she sat on them keeping them warm until the days had passed that there was a pecking and a small chick made its entrance into the world. New life!
There was a story that many of you have heard. There was a large forest fire, the kind they have in southern California. Acres and acres of land had been blackened, including one large farm. As the farmer was going through the farm yard, he came upon a hen who had been killed, her feathers burned to a crisp. He had loved that hen and as he gingerly liftedher body, from underneath ran all her little chicks, still alive and well. Protecting our lives!
The Lord does both!
