A friend spoke of this years ago and I was always interested in exploring this. As I understand it, it is taking themes from the OT that are then "repeated" in the NT For instance, Abraham's near sacrifice of Isaac mirrors God's sacrifice of his own Son.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? Is there a book I could read on this?

Thanks.

Well no one else has jumped in so I thought I'd least say this so you don't feel ignored....

I know what you are talking about and I happen to think it is one of the "really cool" things about Scripture.

Some of my favorites:

The entire Israel in slavery being led out by Moses mirroring our slavery to sin and deliverance.
Joseph being sold and it being "meant for bad" but being a good thing mirrors Jesus being crucified being meant for bad but we call it "Good Friday."
Jonah in fish then coming out and rescuing Ninevah mirrors Jesus in the tomb
Passover lamb and Jesus

On the other hand I am not aware of any specific books on the topic, which is why I hadn't previously bothered to reply....

Mother and grandmother raised me discussing types and shadows. When you get to understand the OT, you will then see how it is a story that can be followed through the Bible of God's people. There were things that were types for us-like Egypt being a type of sin. The OT is the NT concealed, and the NT is the OT revealed. I love the OT--due to the way I was raised.

Joanne,

It has been a while since you posted this thread, so maybe you've come to learn more about typology since, then, but there are many books that you could read about the subject. Unfortunately, it's not a subject that I've spent much time with, so I can't recommend a book for you, but I do know that there are many resources for typology.

A word of advice: don't get too carried away with typology. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I've known people who have gotten a bit wrapped in typology at the expense of other means of Biblical interpretation.
