Steve Heap visited our little rural church here in Pefferlaw this evening (Saturday) for a deputation dinner and presentation. Our "hospitality" crew put on a wonderful spread, and we welcomed three other sister churches to join with us for the evening (Newmarket, Egypt, and Lakeside - Holland Landing).

There was a good turnout, and I hope a good offering for Steve's continued ministry in Brazil, where he has been a missionary for 33 years (1973).

Steve asked me to say "Hi" to Dave McClung for him, so, "Hi, Dave" from Steve.

A gentle spirit, Steve attended Bethany Nazarene College (BNC) back in the day ... now SNU. Perhaps some more of you remember him from back then.

Tomorrow he's at Toronto Main Street for the morning service, and Hamilton Mountain in the evening.

I'm sure I shared this story before but I'll do it again because no one is around to stop me.
I was at an evangelism conference in Costa Rica in 1997 that was primarily for Spanish speaking delegates from South America. Louise Bustle thought I would benefit from catching their spirit so he encouraged me to go. I met Steve there and we talked a lot about a variety of things. He became my translator in services, while he speaks Portuguese there is obviously enough similarity between the two languages for him to be able to do that. He would even translate the songs we were singing.
One of the songs was a Spanish translation of an HillSong. This was prior to them becoming the world phenomena that they are today but our church was using them a lot. I leaned over to Steve, who had no idea of its origins, and I said, "Steve, I think God is giving me the gift of interpretation, does this song say..." I went on to quote the song in its English version making sure to give the impression that I was struggling with the individual words. His jaw dropped open and he looked at me and nodded his head. I reaffirmed my confidence that I was starting to understand Spanish. He was amazed but then wondered why God had been so specific in my gift of languages.
