in the compassionate ministries magazine this time about the couple who went to the Kingdom of Tonga, Doc and Charmayne Old, and now maybe their daughter is serving there? They were from Quincy Washington,Im not sure if that is near you all. They had a passion for the children born with defects such ascerebal palsy, and opened a clinci with the blessing of Rev Schmelzenbach. What a wonderful true story of sacrifice and love! When someone talks about children, especially handicapped children, it strikes a chord in my heart. The tragedy of Charmayne's death, brought their daughter Gina to the Lord. Sometimes tragedys are so very hard to deal with but one good thing comes out of them, if a person comes into a vital relationship with the Lord, when otherwise they woudnt have. There are people who live in this world who make a real difference, and these are one set of people! We desperately need many many more like them!

In 1953 when our Chelan, Washington High School football team drove into Quincy to play the Quincy team for a game I noticed what I thought was an unusual amount of new houses going up for a town the size it was then. The next time I saw District Superintendent of the Northwest District, Dr. E. E. Zachary I mentioned it to him and within a short time he visited the community and it was not long until a church was started. I used to teach in Moses Lake, Washington which is not far from Quincy. We also had a lady from the Quincy church on the SVIS staff.

Thanks for sharing. I know where Quincy is and I live in Washington, but I don't know where Quincy, WA is. I wonder if they pronounce the name of their town like the folks in MA do or like the folks in IL do?

Yes, the "proper" way to pronounce "Quincy" is "Quin zee."

The town in WA is pronounced "Quin see". Doc and Charmayne were members of our church in Leavenworth, WA when I pastored there early in this decade. I talked to Doc a few weeks back. He's still recovering from the shock, but coming along. They were, and are, two of my favorite people.

The last time I went on the Adams mansion tour in "the real Quincy." They made special note to say that there's 12 (or 14, I forget which) other Quincy's in the country, all named after the Quincy family of John Quincy Adams and (I'm quoting here, "everyone one of them pronounces it the wrong way."
