I was going to post this as a response to Cindi Hammond's earlier post about the Georgia high school that's having its first ever integrated prom this year. But I thought it might be better as a new thread.

I saw many passionate responses to the integration post. This is obviously STILL a somewhat touchy subject to many.

My question is this:

When you see the cute little commercial where Mom is gleefully running the carpet sweeper while Dad and Son, who are firmly planted on the sofa watching television, do her the kind favor of moving their feet out of her way so that she can clean up the crumbs they've dropped -- are you this passionate?

Or how about the kids' toy commercials -- girls still do Barbie commercials and boys still do Tonka truck commercials. Just like in the '60's. Does this bother anybody?

So what's my point? Racism still exists. Gender inequality still exists. I believe that anyone who does not recognize these truths is simply not paying attention.

Any comments?

Are you equally as passionate regarding the plethora of commercials that make women look very smart while the men look like ignorant buffoons?

I agree with the premise of your post.

P.S. I like the name of your town. It sounds lovely.

Equality notwithstanding, my experience has been that girls tend to prefer playing with dolls and boys prefer to play with trucks. The toy people know this and advertise to their markets. Believe, if they thought there was a lot of money to be made selling Barbies to boys they would hit the adverstising hard.

Not just commercials, but enough sit-coms, that not too many get watched around here (by me, anyway).

About the gender discrimination, just today I heard again about how much many women, doing the same jobs as men, get less for it. Not cool.

Agreed. It does sound like a neat place, doesn't it? "Dewy Rose." Ahhhhh .......

I agree

Ooooh, Ooooh (to be read as Welcome Back Kotter's Horseshack would say it.)

How about NazNet having a women's forum and not a men's?
