I was going to post this as a response to Cindi Hammond's earlier post about the Georgia high school that's having its first ever integrated prom this year. But I thought it might be better as a new thread.
I saw many passionate responses to the integration post. This is obviously STILL a somewhat touchy subject to many.
My question is this:
When you see the cute little commercial where Mom is gleefully running the carpet sweeper while Dad and Son, who are firmly planted on the sofa watching television, do her the kind favor of moving their feet out of her way so that she can clean up the crumbs they've dropped -- are you this passionate?
Or how about the kids' toy commercials -- girls still do Barbie commercials and boys still do Tonka truck commercials. Just like in the '60's. Does this bother anybody?
So what's my point? Racism still exists. Gender inequality still exists. I believe that anyone who does not recognize these truths is simply not paying attention.
Any comments?
