I have made that dreaded computer change and my bible software (an old version of quickverse) won't work on Windows XP :( . I hate it because all I used the bible software for was, the Bible. Commentaries and other study aids I have else where. I could bring up 4 or more versions and compare them easily. Could cut and paste quickly and was quite happy with having the NKJV, NIV, NRSV and NASB together. Also had access to the greek and hebrew through Strongs Concordance. Anyway, I have started looking to replace the program and I'm not happy with what I have found. So I'm asking you Naznetters, What bible software do you use and are you happy with it ? Thanks in advance for your insights !

I know lots of people love the Logos software, but I also know more than a few people who only have macs because it's the only platform that runs Accordance software. I've used logos some and it seems very helpful. I've yet to try Accordance, but that sort of over-committed loyalty certainly speaks volumes for it.

I have been using QuickVerse for many years. The only thing I don't like about it is not being able to use NIV. Since you have the NIV on an earlier version, you would be able to import it into the newer QuickVerse. (I can too, but have misplaced my old disks.)

QuickVerse updates their software every year, but there really isn't much difference. You can find last year's version online at a large discount.

Hey Dave -

I'd also vote for Logos (www.logos.com). I myself don't have it (yet!), but have used it before several times and wish that I did have it. One of the neat things about it is that you can begin at any "level." It is certainly regarded as the best program for Bible scholars, but you don't have to begin there, you can buy a simpler level, and then if you want, as you go along, add on the more in depth parts.

I have never had to opportunity to use those softwares. I have e-sword on my computer at home, which is a largely free software with some free ad ons and some other add on's at a cost (like the NIV translation). I used to use it quite a bit, but I get more out of just going to crosswalk.com and using their site and then going to Godrules.net for some commentaries on top of that.

What more do these softwares give you over say a crosswalk.com?

Thanks
blessings

I've been using the Online Bible since I had to order it and it came to me in a big box of 3.5" disks! I think Bible software is a lot like word processing software, the one you learn on is the one you like the best.

You can get a free KJV only download at http://www.onlinebible.net/index.html - you can also download and unlock other versions of the Bible. They also now have a PDA version.

Our, you can buy the Wesleyan Heritage Library and get the Online Bible plus commentaries and nearly 500 holiness works at http://www.online-bible.com/

I like Logos.

Also, if you want a really inexpensive addition to your digital library that has a whole bunch of good stuff that's in the public domain, the Master Christian Library is decent. But Logos, IMO, is the best program out there.

So, did you switch to Mac? If so, I understand that http://www.Accordancebible.com is one of the better ones. I recently made the switch to mac and am investigating accordance, as well as using my pc version of WordSearch 7 using various windows emulators. Sorry, I couldn't be more help! If indeed you are using mac, I would be interested in you following up if you find any other Bible Software that you like.
Thanks!

I've been using WordSearch by NavPress for many years. I've had no complaints and have looked at many others - but always came back to WordSearch.

I use www.Biblegateway.com. It has 20 English versions of the Bible, passage look-up, keyword search and topical index.

Over the years I've used QuickVerse, Online Bible and several others, including the sites like www.biblegateway.com (http://www.biblegateway) that give you everything for free on a website.

My favorite is Bible Explorer 3 Premium, which I'm using now. You can get it for $99 from: http://www.discountchristian.com/bible_explorer_v3.html.

It comes with NIV, NASB, NRSV, New Living Translation, The Message New Testament, the commentaries of Adam Clarke, Wesley and Barclay, as well as various Bible dictionaries, Strongs and lots of other translations, commentaries and other resources. You can put as many things in parallel windows as you want for viewing at once, or be one click from all of them. You can also create your own documents, such as a sermon, to view and work on as just another pane in the window if you want.

I love it. It's one of the primary things holding me back from a switch from Windows to Linux (which I'm about to try to install as a dual boot system on our only PC. If you don't here from me for a few days, it didn't go well.).

Me, too.
I like it for doing passage look-up.

On my Mac I have used the Accordance commentaries for years and really like them. Recently purchased the newest Quickverse for Mac, as I have used it on PCs. Happy with all of them.

Grace and peace.

Hi, Dave. If ALL you want is the Bible and NIV will suffice, you can buy a used copy of the WWJD CD from Amazon.com. "Along with youth-friendly, alternative contemporary Christian music, the packaging encloses a WWJD bracelet and the enhanced CD includes the complete NIV Bible, plus concordance and study software for both PC and Mac computers." I've purchased several copies of this CD simply for the NIV Bible -- I don't remember any bracelets, but the music is a bonus The Bible part is quickly searchable by phrase or verse and will tell you how many hits it finds for word/phrase searches. I copy and paste the verses I want into a wordprocessor.

I don't suppose it's in the running for BEST software, but it might be among the most economical for a copyright version. (I've never used anything else. I prefer books for study aids but I don't want to retype scripture to get it into a document.)

PS: I finally got around to ordering The Politics of Jesus this week, along with some other Amazon offers. Ah, the anticipation of a package from Amazon. :)

Well, tell ya what, Scott ... it was already 1995 when I got a first (used, very used) computer, and I had QuickVerse not on 3.5" disks, but on those even older huge 5" floppies that were really "floppy!" (have heard the 3.5" called those, tho' they're hard, & not floppy ;)) Wanted to be able to replace that with a newer version; guess I should maybe ask them if I send them the 5.5" floppies (think they might be here somewhere yet in my computer "stuff" or elsewhere) as proof that I already had QuickVerse, if they would give me credit towards some 3.5" or even maybe a CD, eh!
