I remember wondering what I would do with all that memory when I bought a 20 MB hard drive. When I bought a 1 Gig HD, I thought that was all I would ever need.
Well, Tiger Direct is now offering a 1 TB hard drive for less than $500!! All of the digital photos I have taken since I started using a digital camera (10 years ago), takes up less than 300 Gig.
Still, if trends continue, I will be needing a 1 TB hard drive within a couple of years.
Here is the Tiger Direct link:

Dave, I saw a WD 500 Gb external harddisk for € 120 in the Netherlands the other day. For $ 500 I'd want it to come at least with a network connection, not only Firewire or USB.
I have 250 Gb external HD connected to a server, so both Hannie and me can use it. But if one doesn't have a server running all the time, I'd go for one with a 100 Mbit network connection.

Dave,
I think you could get the same drive from Newegg a little cheaper. they offer a one year warranty (30 day return policy) and it is $408.49 plus $9.44 shipping. We do a lot of buying from them, and we have always had good service. That is not the cheapest that they have, but Western Digital is pretty good brand. Yes, it takes lots of storage for pics and videos.

Thanks, Bob. I am not ordering it because I currently have enough hd space. The computer I recently bought has 4 hard drives:
3 250 gb and 1 500 gb. In addition, I have a couple of 250 gb external drives that I use for backup. That should be enough to hold me for a couple more years of photography. My new camera uses 10 mb per picture if I take it at max size and quality.

I think most people that are in the market for these large drives and running some sort of Media Center and using their PCs as DVRs. A normal 30 minutes show is almost 2 gig.

I've already got over 2 TB ...
1 TB is in a raid I use for DV editing, the other is for general computer storage.
I remember buying my first 1 GB ( $600.00 back then) and thinking I'll never need to get more storage than that....

How are you liking your Nikon D200? I am still learning the adjustements, but I really like it. It has the feel of a "real" camera.

I love the Nikon!
I also got a FujiFilm S3....
The scary part is I'm using the Fuji more than the Nikon lately.
I also got a bunch of 4GB CF cards - just so I can shoot everything in "Raw".
