April 24, 2007 was the 500th Anniversary of the initial presentation of a map by cartographer Waldseemueller that named the "New World" as "America," on April 24, 1507. I caught it on a report late last night and I just had to take time to celebrate before the end of the day as to why I did not post this on the exact day. Please forgive me for not getting this most important information out to all of my geography students in time.

Well, I guess we can forgive you this time, but you'd better make sure you don't miss the 1,000th anniversary when it comes around.
