My grandson, Tyler, is in the midst of his third bout with this infection in the period of one year. I have almost no details at this moment, other than a quick MSN note from my daughter Amber, which said:
"Tyler has another outbreak of MRSA...we were at the Dr.'s today to get I & D...(incision and drainage) and meds. so here we go again with the diarrhea and yeast infections...."
I am sad that this is back, and will again commit this to God's keeping.
The picture (at Easter) is of Tyler, nearly two and a half, and his little brother Zach, born the end of August last year.

With a wee bit of trepidation, I post this (since yeast, whether staph-related or other, can be helped with the intestinal flora being reconstituted with good bacteria---probiotics). Often, many rounds of antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria but the good/necessary-for-adequate-digestion bacteria. Tho' I know there's some questions on this board re anything other than "conventional medicine" (in this case, yet more antibiotics to kill this infection), along with the antibiotics killing the bad stuff, something must help keep the good/necessary bacteria alive, so it's not killed off in the process:
Recommendations for Fighting Yeast
Do not ingest any form of refined sugar or fermented foods including yogurt and cheese. You may have the following fruits: Granny Smith Apple, Berries of all kinds. Eat 1 clove of garlic every day.
Supplement with probiotics as recommended.
Take a plant enzyme formula with each meal. Enzymes help to chew the food up and thus leave less for the yeast to thrive on.
Practice food combining for your diet. Food combining is designed to help your food move quickly through your system without any chance of fermentation which, in turn, will greatly improve your digestion process.
Take some kind of colon cleanse before bed to facilitate the removal of the dead yeast from your body. This can protect you from experiencing a healing crisis from the toxins given off from the yeast. Plus as an added benefit it will keep the colon clean and provide an oxygenated environment. Yeast thrives in an anaerobic environment. Remember that it can take months to get yeast under control. Continue on your diet and take only high quality supplements.
This is a partial quote from a website I even hesitate to post, b/c they do have some probiotics for sale there. However, no matter where one goes, whether a non-sale or selling place, there are such things, b/c good bacteria is necessary for us ... and this just was more succinct that some other sites, where it was such a long, detailed discussion. So, one can find more with a search re probiotics and staph (or yeast) infection, since this mentions both.
Hope he gets to feeling well soon, Gord. Was reminded in recent months re how important this intestinal balance is via a friend who's had a plethora of antibiotic rounds for intestinal infection (following surgery re diverticulosis/removal of intestinal portion). Now they're finally getting back in balance, after suffering many other infection/yeast related bouts, having gotten so out of balance from many antibiotics.
Bowing out now, leaving others to search for themselves.

Gina (and Gord),
True probiotics help keep candidiasis at bay. That is what causes the diarrhea and yeast infections. Gord, your grandson's pediatrician/specialist may be able to recommend a probiotic for the tot to take that is age appropriate. Probiotics are normally found in yogurt. Stonyfield Organic Plain Yogurt is best. They may have a prescription formula for children as well.
The little one is in my prayers. I know it's tough on his parents (and grandparents) too!

Gina and Andrea,
Thanks for your notes and caring.
Tyler has been using L. Acidophilus as a diet supplement since last year when he had his first bouts with staph, to help boost his immune system. It is a probiotic that will also ease some of the problems (diarrhea, etc.) associated with the anitbiotics he needs to take to kill the infection. It cannot be taken at the same time as the antibiotics because the drug will also kill the probiotic. He'll take the L. Acidophilus a couple of hours after he takes his antibiotics.
Your concern and your prayers are very much appreciated.

I talked to Amber tonight, as she was giving both boys a bath.
Tyler seems fine, and is improving/recovering rapidly from the incision/draining of his infection on Tuesday. He sounded great on the phone, too, as we had a visit.
Tomorrow, I'll visit with all three on Skype. The photos, below, were taken by Amber this afternoon as both Tyler and Zach vied for coloring rights.

I'm so grateful for MSN, Skype and webcams!
I've been visiting with Amber and Tyler, and baby brother Zach this week ... in between tax return preparation for my clients (nearly done for another year -- yeah, April 30th!) ... and I've seen Tyler, not a happy camper, and I've now seen him with a big grin back on his face, feeling fit and strong and racing around their home in Georgia! The infection was caught in a very early stage, was incised, drained (in the Dr.'s office), and treated with medication and antibiotic creams this week, and is now almost a thing of the past.
I was given a 'visual' last evening, as Tyler proudly turned his back on the webcam, bent over slightly, and pulled down is "drahs", revealling a small area on his cute little left butt "cheek" that is no longer red, but disappearing rapidly!
He was smiling through the complete demonstration!
Me, too, though I still don't like to think about the alternate consequences of this nasty infection.
I'm encouraged, and grateful. God is good, all the time! Thank you for your thoughts and care this week.

Dear Mr. Evans,
I hope your grandson is free of mrsa. I ran across your story while looking on the web.
We fought mrsa for 11 mos. and 7 antibiotics with our son John Michael when he was just a little past 2 yrs. old- this was almost 3 yrs. ago. He has been free of any mrsa boils since then after praying for a miracle and my girlfriend leading me to her nutritionist. I'll be happy to tell you what I learned and used if needed. Please feel free to call me as it's too much for me to type! I have another son and daughter besides John Michael.

I will be praying for your grandson. I hope he stays MRSA free from now on.
I have been struggling with MRSA for several years now... I was originally diagnosed with a spider bite and had to live at the wound care clinic for weeks. Someone mentioned MRSA to me and I googled it.... that was scary!! I now control it through diet and supplements. I take tea tree oil and epson salt baths on a regular basis and I take probiotics every day. I got a sore on my foot just a few weeks ago but it went away within a few days so my body seems to be building up an immunity to it.

Christi,
Thank you so much for your care and concern. Tyler has been MRSA free for nearly a year, now. His Mom continues to supplement his diet with L.Acidophilus (probiotic) and vitamins. At the height of Tyler's outbreaks, there was only one antibiotic that was effective. We learned that a tolerance would occur each time he used the antibiotic, and that its effectiveness would vary indirectly with the frequency of its administration. A tremendous amount of prayer support surrounded Tyler during those three incidents. We know that God heard those prayers, and we're grateful that the infections have not returned.
I'm pleased to hear that your John Michael has had a similar restoration of good health, following prayers and the assistance of the nutritionist.
