yes, today while trying to get a pattern from vintage-crochet/knit patterns, it suddenly told me that I cannot open a PDF file in my browser! I've done it countless times ... NEVER had trouble! what gives!? 'Seems awhile ago there was something that popped up while on-line that said it was an Adobe Acrobat Reader update, so I DL'd it ... checked it for viruses, then said "OK" for it to replace the old one.

Is there someone out there sending something purporting to be a new version of Adobe [ver. 7], and it's not really from them, tho' it looks like it is? or, is there something else that may be the problem??

thanks!

Hi Gina,

I had a similar problem when my version of Adobe Acrobate updated itself. This worked for me.

Click on EDIT

Click on PREFERENCES

Click on INTERNET

Make sure that the “Display PDF in Browser” is unticked
ie if it is ticked click on it.

Click OK

Let me know if it works for you.

Best wishes

Ian.

In my experience of late updating Acrobat Reader has caused problems. ver 7.03 has caused many problems. This could be what you are coming up against. If Ian's solution doesn't work, try uninstalling Acrobat Reader and then download the latest version (7.05) and install that one. Who knows, but that might help.

... just remembered to check here, tho' it's been days, since I just tried to open something to read the other day agian, and couldn't.

thanks for the help! altho' I've yet another question ... how can you click on "edit" in Adobe when it won't open? the "edit" in regular browser doesn't have a "preferences" option ... unless, maybe, it would be under "tools" then "options" that I would find this? [using Firefox, not MSIE]. So, we'll check there, as that just came to mind ... "tools."

Again, thanks! ;)

EDIT: OK, didn't find anything like this under "tools," then "options," so will have to try to get far enough inside Adobe reader to find it. gs

Gina, I updated my AR, and immediately began to have problems. I did a Google and read that many others also were having multiple problems. The most recommended solution was to uninstall all AR components and then install an earlier version. I went back to version 5 and have had no problems since. You might want to try that.
