Have you guys heard of DialIdol.com (http://www.dialidol.com)?
This guy created a software that has been downloaded by thousands of people. The software uses their computers modems to dial out and cast votes for American Idol. I think he has one for Dancing with the stars, too.
Anyway, the software doesn't just cast votes, it records busy signals and reports the number of busy signals back to the website. the theory is that the more busy signals one person is getting, the more votes they are getting.
It predicted that Jordin would win by a landslide, and evendently, it was correct.
I know that was a bit of useless information, but it was interesting to me!

I was hoping for Melinda.....owell, I think Jordin is a very good singer, but I will probably not buy anything that she might put out, I will be more likely to buy something from Blake or Melinda.

What was interesting to me was that it was BB & CC Winans for whom Melinda had done back-up, and we find it out, finally, when they all 3 sang together last night.

A Nashville girl I might add

Nashville girl? They kept talking about her being from Glendale, AZ [Phoenix suburb]. That was her, wasn't it? Did she go from Glendale to Phoenix in recent months, while on Idol, or did she used to live in Nashville and they moved out to Glendale?
Didn't know, BTW, that Jordin had also sung back-up already. Hmmm ... no wonder the radio was saying today that MW Smith was suggesting the last sev'l wks that folks vote for Jordin; they didn't add, however, unless I missed it, that she'd sung back-up for him! Again ... hmmmm .... interesting.

I thought Tom was talking about the girl that got voted off last week that was from Brentwood, Tn. I think her name was Melinda.

Yes, Melinda was a back up singer, not Jordin. I thought Melinda was great, best all around performer imo. I can't fault Jordin either though, for her age, she has a wonderful voice. As long as a certain person did not win in the end.....sanj....I won't say his name, lol, I was good with the final 4.
I just thought Melinda was above the rest in how she was able to relay the songs. Blake is going to be good, because he has some great musical creativity all around, but I felt his voice was not up to the same quality as the final 3 girls.

Did not like Blake; too (yes) boring; a one-trick pony with the beat-box; I was impressed but lost the impression after a few beats of the box. I noticed that a lot of girls liked him, however. (Did not like Chris more. Phil was okay but his look was not going to carry him through.)
Melinda Doolittle was my favorite singer, but predicted (wrongly) that she would go head to head with Jordin Sparks, and (rightly) that Jordin would win because the overall package (youth, looks, voice) would win the vote.
USA today said that Lakisha's voice is more "salable" (than Melinda's who was dubbed the best singer American Idol has ever had).
I am reaching the end of the coveted demographic (18-49), and that means I didn't bother to cast a single vote, despite watching the competition throughout. I suspect the younger you were, the more likely you were to spend a couple of quarters on voting each week. My demographic also probably accounted for more of the Doolittle fan base (which because of our relative lack of participation in the voting process, was probably her downfall).
Congratulations, Jordin Sparks! I do not regret her as the choice one iota. It seems that Christians were very well-represented among the singers. (By the way, I doubt the report that Jordin was a backup singer for Michael Smith because, as we all know, she is only 17-years old.)

I'm a horrible pop-culture prognosticator, but I don't see Jordin, Blake, or Melinda as selling anywhere close to the albums that Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have so far. I don't think Jordin will do as poorly commercially as Fantasia or Reuben, but I don't believe she'll achieve "idol" status.
I find it a little interesting that so far we've had three Caucasian idols (two of which are super-stars), two African-American (neither of which are super-stars), and now one Hispanic (I think?). If Blake ends up doing better commercially than Jordin or Melinda, will it say anything about pop culture, race, and consumerism (ie: minority contestants do great at getting votes, but for some reason don't do as well commercially?) May be nothing to it, but I'd love to see some research.
I also find it interesting that many who have launched their careers through idol are very public about their Christian faith (Clay, Fantasia, Mandesa, Kelly Pickler, and now Melinda and Jordin).

Jordin's dad is African-American. I think her mom is white. Last years idol, Taylor Hicks, will be the lowest I think. Chris Daughtry has been a big seller so far. He was third. I think what happens is people vote for more than one and end up pushing someone like Taylor Hicks through unexpectedly. If they had let someone go the week of the big charity event Jordin would not be the idol. She had the lowest votes that week. I think it rallied her to the top because it was a close call. I also think people remember what happened to Mandisa last year. That was a shock.

Not trying to be argumentative, but Jordin did sing backup for Michael W.Smith.I saw her mom being interviewed and she talked about it for a couple minutes.
Melinda has done some backup for BeBe and CeCe Winans as well.
Thanks!

I called in 82 votes the last time our church voted on our pastor. He was so encouraged. Not bad for a church running 35.

That "Thanks" above was re a good laugh. New way of voting in church elections, eh? "OK, everyone, get your cell phones ready!" [oh, and, don't forget to change your call settings to "no" re letting your ID be known]. :basic05
