My wife's computer is getting slower and slower and slower.
So ever since last evening I've been attempting to perform
a) scan disk
b) defrag
to speed things along a little, if possible.
NOTHING is working - the computer is refusing to perform either of those maintenance items. I've done everything I know to do - except standing on my head out in the middle of I-57, which I may attempt soon.
Any suggestions?
thanx

Have you ran Microsoft Anitspyware? Sometimes, if your computer gets spyware, the spyware will take over the computer. This week, a program called "Atomic Clock" showed up on my computer. I used to voluntarily use the program to keep my computer clock updated and had no idea that it was spyware. Microsoft Antispyware warned me and removed the program.

I'd say the first thing to do is boot into safe mode. Press F5 or F8 when you first boot up to get there. While in safe mode, you are running only what is needed by the Windows OS. Run the scan disk and defrag, but also that is a good time to run anti-virus scans and anti-spybot programs. Good luck.

It's working - did the Standard scandisk (while in safemode) in less than 5 mins - and I've now got it doing the Thorough Scan - I just checked - it's on 358,000 cluster of 1,638,000 clusters.
GOOD grief - that'll take all night. But that's okay - at least it's working.
Afterwards - later tonight or early Sunday - I'll kick it into the defrag while still in safemode and also the virus scan etc.
So thanx guys.
Once again you've come through like CHAMPS for this CHUMP.
:)
