It seems that for every movie about firefighters, there are 300 about police officers. I suppose it is easier to stage car chases and interrogations than to burn down large buildings.
Thus, I enjoy firefighter movies, of which Ladder 49 is only the second that I have seen. (first one was Backdraft)
If you like movies that defy Hollywood formulas, you will like this one.
The story starts with a firefighter who helps rescue someone from a burning industrial building, but then becomes trapped. While waiting for rescue, the main character has a number of flashbacks that trace his life and career as a firefighter.
I enjoyed the movie, but I put it in the category of 'movies that force you to wrestle with where the story goes.'
