I love working for MADD.

Today I am doing some volunteer hours on a "RIDE". (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Our chapter sponsors check stop programs with the police.

I was surprised that we were having one on a Saturday morning but apparently you can catch impaired drivers even at this time.

Anyway, MADD volunteers go along with the police and hand out literature to those who are stopped.

It will be an interesting experience I'm sure.

I have a friend who is an officer in the local unit and several years ago during "Red Ribbon Week" he asked me to pass out red ribbons at entryway to our grocery store.

Patiently awaiting your report, Barbara. ;)

It was an interesting morning.

Many of the people who were stopped were curious as to why the police were looking for drunk drivers at 8:00 on a Saturday morning.

Thing is...they found one.

It was a great awareness event. We gave MADD literature to well over 1,000 cars.

Leisha has become a volunteer with MADD and has been such a help this week. She assisted with the memorial service we did on Thursday, organized the storage area in our office on Friday and came out with me early on a Saturday morning. What a great daughter she is.

She starts a summer job at Youth for Christ on Monday so she wanted to help me as much as possible this week.

Barbara,

Saturday night is not such an odd time to catch drunk or drug impaired drivers. Some people get off of work or school on Friday and then party all night. A girl in our area who was working as a sign twirler (you know the people who stand on corners and twirl signs advertising houses, business, etc.) was killed on a Saturday morning by a drunk driver.

Keep up the good work.
