Today was the grand opening of Gig Harbor's new bridge. It has been under construction for more than 5 years. It will still be free to come visit us, but it will cost $3 to leave.
As part of the grand opening, the general public was invited to hike across the bridge. Linda, Pammy, Jena, Belle, John David, Joshua and I walked the mile across the bridge and a mile back. It was great fun.
The second picture is of my shirt. Linda and I both wore shirts that said, "I Hiked it" "Pikes Peak Elev. 14,100 Ft. Below the picture is says "Bear Necessities" You have to study the picture to understand the "Bear Necessities."

I was there just last week! After our Alaska cruise, we were in the Seattle/Tacoma area, including Gig Harbor. We were picking up a friend enroute to a cabin near Mount Rainier.
We saw the dual bridges. Was the new one open to cars before today? I'm trying to sort out if we were on it or not.
Beautiful area!

How'd you like the cruise? Linda and I have done it, and are ready to go again. Which ports did you do, and what was your favorite excursion?

No. The first car (other than construction vehicles) crossed it today. The first car to cross was a 1924 touring car that was also the first car across the old bridge and the first car to cross the bridge that it replaced. That is the one that fell.

my friend's husband is the communications director for the Washington Department of Transportation, and was in charge of the ground breaking 5 years ago, and also in charge of the opening to vehichles this morning.. i wondered if you and Linda would be a part of this walk. :) My friend, her husband and their son were also on the bridge walk, and involved with all the ceremonies surrounding the opening this weekend :)

If you were that close to us, why didn't you come visit us. I would have made you a delicious meal! We would have loved to have seen you! The bridge walk was great! I especially enjoyed the little grandchildren! Love you!

Linda
This must be the same bridge they were working on a couple of years ago when Mama and I were there. I have a picture of it somewhere.

You're right, Marsha! That's the bridge just 2 miles from our home. It's so pretty. Be sure and tell Mama. Love you!

Hi Linda! We were up there in Seattle (Edmonds) a week ago, for 1 week of visiting and family reunion. I especially thought of you all when we took a side ferry trip to Poulsbo with our daughter and her four kiddies. What fun! I liked the ferry ride as we got to see Mt. Ranier on top deck. We ate at a nice resturant overlooking the water and sailing boats, and one of them said.. the Gig, and I knew we must be close. Very nice side trip, must say, and the scenery can't be beat...right! Dave and you look soo cute together in your matching shirts. Love ya. Rosalie and John:basic01

Rosalie, you should call us when you are so near. Yep, the weather this time of the year is glorious. I try to stay here during the summer. The bridge walk was great fun especially with the grandchildren. Denny had run it earlier. He said he didn't even get to enjoy the view at all because of the run. Love you!

Linda--
Dave had seen on Naznet that we were going to Alaska out of Seattle and graciously emailed and invited us to come visit. But, our time in and out of Gig Harbor was while you all were out of town. I think you were climbing some mountain someplace (maybe Pikes Peak?). Thanks for the offer, however!

Couldn't see where the grandkids " walked " that much but far better that then cranky tired kids that wanted to be carried ! Great pictures , Dave .
