SWO in this case is Southwestern Ohio District.
Douglas Van Nest has served as the District Secretary for the past 4 years, and has been the Pastor of West Carrollton Church of the Nazarene.
As an evangelist, I had the opportunity to attend several District Assemblies where a new DS was being elected (meaning districts other than my home district). This is also the second time that I've been at an assmbly of SWO District where a DS has been elected (the last one here was 10 years ago, when our current DS, Carlton Hansen was elected).
In my memory, this was the fewest number of ballots required to have one person receive a 2/3 majority vote; Doug Van Nest was elected on the 6th ballot, after having led every ballot previous to that.
In the next post, I'll post some of the numbers

I don't know him but I do know Bob Mahaffey and have enormous respect for he and his wife. He was my pastor at Grace Church of the Nazarene many years ago.

Rick and I are doing a happy dance with this election of our new DS.
Of course we would be doing the happy dance if it were Bob and Elaine or Keven and Pam. I sense a change in a new direction for our district,
YEAH!

Aha! You confirmed what I tho't when I first saw, "Steve Ward." Tho't that name sounded familiar. Since I was there when y'all were, guess I was there when Steve was, too. ;)

Steve Ward received some votes for the Southwestern Ohio DS the same week he'd already been elected NCO DS.
Steve's brother, Stan, just moved to the SWO District from NCO a little over a year ago to serve as the Pastor of Dayton First Church of the Nazarene.
