Jim's mention of Extreme Home Makeover reminded me of this...

Watch an episode of Extreme Home Makeover. As it wraps up, what are you thinking:

I wish someone would do that for me.
I wish I could do that for someone.

For me it depends on how much I like the house.

I do have to admit, I really enjoy it when the mortgage is paid off or college expenses are supplied. I don't really have a big family yet, but I can understand the relief on a father's face knowing a large burden of support has been lifted.

Locally. we have been told that the one here will be telecast in October. Right now they are guarding against anyone taking pictures in the house until after that telecast.

I don't think we old folks could handle that size of house unless the sponsors hired a perpetual maid service. But I have been trying to think of anyone in the area whom I would like to nominate. The house that was built is approximately 20 miles from where I live so I do not know them. Enough have been said about them in the local press to be able to identify them as Mormons. I am glad they were nominated and were chosen to be recipients of a new home with all the amenities.

Definitely I wish I could do that for someone. When my kids were young, and I lived in a shack, I would have liked it for me, but now they are grown and in their own places, I have a nice little home with my husband, and it wouldn't make such a big difference in my life.

That said, I also hope to have my mortgage paid off before I retire :)

For the past few years there was a family in CA for whom I'd been wishing they could hook up with this Home Makeover place. Even went to their website looking to see if there was some way. But, being here in MI, and them in CA, without a camera that could take a video (required, it appears, for an application), I couldn't help out in that way.

Now, after they've both lived with folks, and then in a converted garage with 2 kids (no cook stove, even; just a micro, tiny fridge) for nearly 3 years after that, they've moved up to northern CA, and have an actual place of their own. So, while feeling I'd sure like a home myself away from the turmoil in this one, I was thinking of them for a few years. Now, once again, I'd sure not mind having one of my own ... hey, there'd be no one to tell me I couldn't have my 4-footed critter (unless I "cut her in half"---being twice+ their weight restrictions most places), so I wouldn't have to live alone, as in most rentals. 'Twould be very nice ... tho' other than "alone" would be even nicer. ;)

Sasha, my "Precious Pretty Pouty Poopsie Puppy, Sasha" (yeah, I do like alliteration ;)) wouldn't want her "mom" to give here away, either, at nearly twelve years of age!

I can't watch the program without crying.
