I was going through the settings for the first time quite a while and noticed there are a lot more options than their used to be. I tried changing the thread view to show newest posts first, which is more convenient and similar to the other website I participate in. However, even in one thread it threw me off completely. I'm back to the "old" way.

I can't understand how anyone uses anything other than the default "linear mode." It would drive me nuts to have to click on each post in order to read it...

They have two linear modes, one with oldest posts first and one with newest posts first. On my other boards I always use newest first, but I can't seem to make that feel comfortable here. Habit is a crazy thing.

Yet, that was the way the old Ceiligh board was! I'm thinking I'll try the hybrid view for a whle. Sometimes, I wonder as I'm reading through a thread which post was responded to when it isn't quoted.

I prefer just clicking the "view first unread post" to the left of the thread after I've clicked the "new posts" button, and then picking up where I left off.

That's what I just did. This time, instead of showing all the posts in the thread (while still taking me down the page to the first unread), it just showed yours and the rest are collapsed in the threaded mode. Interesting.

Aint technology grand? I am on a couple of other sites which use vBulletin so I try to mirror the settings, but there are still differences. I'm sure template & software versions play a huge role in that. About the only thing I really worry over is being able to increase the number of posts shown per page.

Yes, just noticed once NN was "reborn" that there are 10 items per page; had it set to 20 per page before. Somewhere, someday, we'll find that again and maybe go back to the "old" way. ;)

You can change it in the settings. I've already set mine back to my "normal" 30 posts per page.

Yup...first thing I did was change the posts per page to the maximum of 40. I'd go higher if it let me.....

Jackie and I were just sitting here talking about using Picasa photo software. It's easy to start using it but if you aren't careful you can lose some pictures and not realize it till later. We agreed that reading the instructions is important.

I think NazNet's software is the same. It's easy to start posting, but there are lots of options for the users. It's a good idea to check out the various settings once in a while, even if one ends up where they were in the first place.

In the case of this new install, had this been a brand new forum I would have made some serious changes in the defaults for new users. However, I knew that in this case, our seasoned users would be upset with changes to the old "default" settings.

YOU CAN MAKE NAZNET APPEAR PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never type in all-caps, so this should be some indication to everyone about how excited I am about this new change. I also set up my settings with the green "skin," but now there is a "pretty in pink" option. I couldn't be happier! YAY!
