Mine is a companion. I know he would protect me so that makes him a bit of a guard.
His job? Keeping our bed warm for us when we are out of the house.

I work with a lady who is blind. Her Seeing Eye dog is considered a service (working) animal and is allowed to go anywhere she goes.

All of the above. Or none of the above. In my house, dogs are family members.

Ha! Good one! Tho' Sasha didn't need to keep the bed warm, since the water bed had a heater (boy, do I miss that bed we had in Phoenix here in MI!), she sure did love it! Wouldn't begin to be able to jump up on it now, but she used to jump on a 12-drawer (meaning, "high!") bed with no problem, and---if you didn't see her anywhere---most likely that's where you'd find her.
NO, she didn't get our bed "doggy-smelling." She had her own "bankie" (doggie-baby-talk for blanket ;))---no, not "blankie"---that I'd put up there on top of our bedspread once I was up & out of bed.

Yes, definitely famliy members. ;) :fav18

Ebony is a working dog who is also a member of our family.
Up until recently, she visited skilled nursing facility once a week to bring some companionship to the residents there. They absolutely adored her, and I'm sure she is missed a lot right now (she is on hiatus for a few months right now due to Lindsey's busy working and school schedule)
As far as a watch dog, well, Ebony would LOOK like a watch dog, but she really isn't. I think she would protect Lindsey, however, but I'm not sure about the rest of us!! LOL
She also competes in agility, but I guess that's more of a sport than a job.
SO, she is a working, competing, companion who is a member of our family....
We also have Katie, and she is just about the sweetest dog in the world, and she is a loving member of our family, but she doesn't have a specific job other than to keep Ebony in line!! LOL
