I've never cried more than during the song in my original post - Def Leppard Miss You in a Heartbeat.

Interesting, on that album they put THREE versions of that tune on there, an electric version, acoustic version, and if you wait about a minute after the last track on the disc, there is a "hidden" piano w/ classical guitar version that smokes.

I've shed more tears listening to that song than probably all my other tears combined...

Laurie, you made several posts re YouTube without giving the names. As they usually take "forever" to load from there [even my hookup is very slow tonight, it seems], could you please just give us a list of those names, so we can have some idea what they are? Thanks!

Sorry Gina. :o
Here's what I posted. The first song was cute. It was from The Little Mermaid, Kiss The Girl. It's where Ariel and Prince Eric go on a canoe in a lagoon.

The next few were all louder, rockier, power ballads: "When This is Love", by Van Halen; "Living on a Prayer", by Bon Jovi; "The Sweetest Thing", by U2; "Crazy", by Aerosmith; and, "Sweet Child of Mine", by Guns N' Roses.

The last song I posted was very nice. It was "The Phantom of the Opera" performed by Sara Brigthman and Antonio Bandaras. This one really really is worth downloading if you have the time!

Of course, my favourite love song of all time, I did not post last night, as I got sidetracked listing power ballads. :basic01 It was my first dance at my wedding: "Suddenly", by Billy Ocean.

"You Lift Me Up " by Josh Groban, or nearly anything else by him.

Il Divo is excellent too.

Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful" is a classic."

But my favorite is actually a collection of music & poetry readings done by Ron Perlman in character as Vincent. Do you remember the TV series Beauty & the Beast? It starred Linda Hamilton as a NYC assistant DA and Perlman as the beast.

Did you know the story behind this video?

The song was written by Bono as an apology to his wife Ali Hewson for forgetting her birthday during The Joshua Tree sessions. At Alison's request, proceeds from the single went to her favorite charity, Chernobyl Children's Project International. Actually, she only agreed to be in the video because of that.

On second thoughts: Turn Of The Century by Yes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tb2a7EeyGc

Realising a form out of stone
Set hands moving
Roan shaped his heart
Thru his working hands
Work to mould his passion into clay
Like the sun

In his room, his lady
She would dance and sing so completely
So be still, he now cries
I have time, oh let clay transform thee so

In the deep cold of night
Winter calls, he cries, don't deny me
For his lady, deep her illness
Time has caught her
And will for all reasons take her

In the still light of dawn, she dies
Helpless hands soul revealing

Like leaves we touch, we learn
We once knew the story
As Winter calls he will starve
All but to see the stone be life

Now Roan no more tears
Set to work his strength
So transformed him
Realising a form out of stone, his work
So absorbed him
Could she hear him
Could she see him
All aglow was his room dazed in this light
He would touch her
He would hold her
Laughing as they danced
Highest colours touching others

Did her eyes at the turn of the century
Tell me plainly
When we meet, how we'll love, oh let life so transform me

Like leaves we touched, we danced
We once knew the story
As autumn called and we both
Remembered all those many years ago
I'm sure we know

Was the sign of the day with a touch
As I kiss your fingers
We walk hands in the sun
Memories when we're young
Love lingers so.

Was it sun thru the haze
That made all your looks
As warm as moonlight
As a pearl deep your eyes
Tears have flown away
All the same light

Did her eyes at the turn of the century
Tell me plainly
When we meet how we'll look
As we smile time will leave me clearly

Like leaves we touch, we see
We will know the story
As Autumn calls we'll both remember
All those many years ago

When Karen and I had been married a year or so there was a popular song that said: "You're still the one". We sang that one to each other a lot, and thought it was impressive of us to still be able to say that to each other after a whole year of marriage. ;-)

The song that I most often sing to Karen now for some reason, even though it's never been one of my favorite songs, is the old Stevie Wonder song, "I just called to say I love you."

There have to be love songs I actually like way better than either of those, but those are the first two that come to mind.

When I saw the title, what came to my mind is something I think PBS had on re oldies ... and Natalie Cole's daddy was singing this song. If it wasn't PBS, then perhaps it's on a CD I found at a garage sale for $1 with Natalie & her daddy (Nat King Cole) singing together (his oldies mixed in with her, newly recorded, singing along).

Everybody loves somebody sometime
Everybody falls in love somehow
Something in your kiss just told me
That sometime is now

Everybody finds somebody someplace
There's no telling where love may appear
Something in my heart keeps saying
My someplace is here

If I had it in my power
I'd arrange for every girl to have you charms
Then every minute, every hour
Everybody would find what I found in your arms

Everybody loves somebody sometime
And though my dreams were overdue
Your love made it all worth waiting
For someone like you

If I had it in my power
I'd arrange for every girl to have you charms
Then every minute, every hour
Everybody would find what I found in your arms

Hey Jim. I still watc Lawrence Welk re-runs. And I willingly watched them as a kid too. My parents were from the Big Band era and I love that music. I could add Night and Day to my list of favorite love songs.

The song "Winchester Cathedral" just popped into my head yesterday and I went around all day singing it to myself. The first time I ever heard it was one of those evenings in childhood when I was being forced to watch the Lawrence Welk show with my parents or grandparents. It was a catchy song and got irretrievably stuck in my head.

True, so true. I saw it for exactly the same reason, and it is a song that just sticks in your head.

You can curse a person just by singing the first few lines of a song like that. It will be with them all day! The contemporary equivalent is "Kung Fu Fighting" :fun06

One of my little ways of entertaining myself is to deliberately stick a weird song in the head of Roland's wife Emmy. All I have to do is just walk past her singing some old pop song from the '70's, or worse yet, a Hank Williams country song, and no matter how much she hates the song, it'll be stuck in her head and she'll go around singing it to herself for the next hour. It's great fun. ;-)

The song that used to do that to me was that old CCM song, "Say, 'I Do'," ... once it got into mine, I sang it for a good while while this one friend & I were painting some scenery long years ago ... then it got stuck into my friend's head, too ... for which she wanted to crown me!

You little deviant, you! :fav18 That's funny, Brad ... 'sounds like my kind of humor [see above].

EDIT: had to come back to say that there's this one song I listened to how-many times today, as I'd not heard it in awhile. Yeah, I learned to program the CD player [as I don't read directions much, I decided I wanted to hear that song more than once badly enough to take time to figure it out today ;)] I've had "forever," so programed the song as #1, then a couple of more songs, then my favorite on the CD again, then another couple of songs, then that favorite again ... well, you get the picture. ;)

It was something I found at a neighbor's garage sale. I'd always liked the song on those occasions I'd hear it out West, and figured it was old enough, I'd never find it in the store. It was Glen Campbell's "Jesus & Me" testmony song. It's just a nice, catchy tune [along w/decent words].

I have sung for kings & queens, all around the world.
I have romanced millions with my guitar & a love song.
et cetera ...................

Just wait until Christmastime! I can play the favorite(s) on every CD how-many times ........... :basic05 Well, actually, I pulled out a Christmas CD today along w/a few others. Didn't catch my station the day they did Christmas in July, so I'm doin' my own version of it in August. ;)

While not the entirety of "Christmas, musically," they're definitely on my "Love 'Em!" list. ;)

One of the others on that list is TransSiberian Orchestra! Wow! Nearly splurged & saw them last year with a friend, and then we decided maybe we'd try to get a video, or maybe another of their CD's (have one so far). Didn't do that, so maybe we'll just go ahead and go this year ... after all, have not done any Christmas concert in years, so maybe could "justify" it by figuring it's how-many concert tickets all wrapped up into one (things are expensive at VanAndel---Amway dude---Arena, you see ;)).

Which reminds me ... the other day they mentioned on the news they were going to have a huge retirement party for the oldest employee (70-something) of the Amway Grand Plaza. He began there in '53 when it was The Pantlind Hotel. There's some of the old Pantlind in the house here, too. When they tore out a lot of it to remake it into the Amway Grand, my dad rushed down there to get some pieces of the marble floors they were tearing up (sentimental, I guess, since he'd worked there as a kid), and those chunks are in jigsaw fashion as the fireplace hearth.

Likewise I don't understand how anyone could successfully avoid ALL knowledge of popular culture for 50 years of adult life.

I found Lawrence Welk to be more nearly the least entertaining TV. I much preferred American Bandstand.

Hey, Brad, we Old Time Nazarenes grew up being taught to turn our back against anything that hinted at "devilish modernism" so I have come a long way from even tolerating the opinions of some of the whippersnappers on this forum.

I grew up the same way in the 1960's. I remember a pastor friend of my dad's giving me a book by Bob Larson entitled: "Rock and Roll: The Devil's Diversion" in about 1970. But even he had to listen to enough of it to quote the lyics in his book to illustrate how evil it was. Even then, at 13-14 years old, it occurred to me that he could just have well quoted lyrics from popular country songs of the day, and write of Country Music the devil's diversion, but he hadn't. Then I started listening to some of the popular music of the pre-rock era and discovered some of the same moral values implicit that rock just made explicit.

I could just never quite get what year God quit liking popular music and why. The music on Lawrence Welk was, for the most part popular music from the 30's and 40's being sung on his show in the 60's by people other than the original artists who made them popular. I just couldn't figure out the rules for acceptable pop music. I remember my dad despised Elvis and his "hip-jerking, bone-grinding, immoral" music -- until the Beatles came along with their longer hair and drugs and Hinduism. Then suddenly Elvis was okay.

I don't listen to a lot of popular music now, but I still go to www.billboard.com and see what the top albums and singles are, then go to www.amazon.com to find those albums and listen to a few of those singles, just to keep in touch with the rest of the world. I don't think we can effectively love people if we aren't interested in getting to know them in the context of their own culture. Missionaries have to do that. I'm pretty sure we do, too, if we want to be agents of transformation in that culture.

Thanks for the tip on how to do this, Brad. Have felt myself that I'm waaay behind in at least knowing what kids are being influenced by today, and have teenaged nieces. Wondered, without leaving some radio station on for too long, how to hear. So, now I know:

(2) amazon.com.

No, No, No, you young whippersnappers, I often get blessed to point of shouting my Lord's praises when Tom Netherton sings "How Great Though Art." Your minds and tastes have been adulterated by worldly modernism. There has not been a reasonably popular song written since 1960. And even though Elvis became popular during my high school years I had nothing but disdain for his brand of whatever it is called and the bugs, too. For absolute enjoyable entertainment Lawrence Welk is right up there with "Evening at the Met." May the generation gap roll on.

Lyrics for: Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

I've had my share
Of life's ups and downs
But fate's been kind
The downs have been few
Oh I guess you can say
that I've been lucky
Or I guess you can say
that it's all because of you

If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever reason there might be
You'd be there between each line of pain and glory
Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me

Oooh there have been times when times were hard
But always somehow I made it through
Cause for every moment that I spent hurting
There was a moment that I spent on just loving you

If anyone should ever write my life story
For whatever reason there might be
You'd be there between each line of pain and glory
Cause you're the best thing that ever happened to me

Okay, now that I know this about them, how am I ever going to take seriously anything Gord, Laurie, Joanne or John say, in any thread, ever.

Compared to these, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and "Kung Fu Fighting" represent quality song writing.

Excuse me, I need to go to my "happy place" now to get the lyrics of these so-called songs out of my head.

We were in a dance club, on the observation deck of the CN Tower. All of Toronto was beneath us, there is a saxaphone playing in the song, and my husband has gorgeous blue eyes.
