by Outside Magazine in its August issue as the top city in the nation for incredible access to a variety of sports, low cost housing and solid jobs. A virtual "mecca of multi sports." Well deserved. Idaho Statesman

I totally agree, if there weren't so many Nazarenes already there, I might consider relocating to Boise.

I thought you were talking about the NCAA preseason football rankings.

Now that would be funny, Boise State is good though, just not no. #1

Interesting, my impression when researching places to move to when I retire from the Army is that the low cost housing is because Idaho ranks in the top 10 states for home foreclosures, most in Ada and Canyon counties and Boise was recently the top city for foreclosures, which was caused by a collapse in the tech industries that fueled the growth in the region over the past 25 to 30 years. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/real_estate/1001/gallery.New_foreclosure_hot_spots/index.html

But for access to outdoor sports activities, Boise definitely is one of the top tier cities.

Now we all know how wrong early season rankings can be, but usually they are never completely out of the realm of possibility. I see that sports Illustrated has Boise State at #2 behind the Crimson Tide. What do you think of that?

Also the Oregon Ducks are ranked #8, with the Florida Gators at #10, hun? Wierd, then the dude fesses up and says, the Gators will probably move up. Well why would you put them at #10 if you think they are going to move up? Whatever...

I lived in Nampa for 10 years (4 in college) and love the area. If I weren't already living in paradise (Western Wash) I would want to live in the Treasure Valley. (Nampa, Boise area)

Good, I'm glad President Obama's policies are starting to have a positive effect on the state's economy.

Craig, this is God's Country for if it weren't who would have the audacity to have a Hell's Canyon and the Seven Devils Mountains.

Hal, Micron just has a sharp CEO who was a Bronco tennis player. Since Idaho has gone for GOP presidential candidates since LBJ, I don't think Obama would do anything to aid Idaho.

Jim, you didn't get the joke. I gave Obama credit for something he probably didn't have a hand in just like you blame him for and accuse him of things he didn't have a hand in.

Micron's CEO having been a Bronco tennis player is irrelevant to the company's performance which, so far hasn't changed the fact that unemployment figures in Ada County are at 8.3 percent and Canyon County at 10.4 percent, and that Idaho ranks eighth in the nation for foreclosures and Boise was recently listed as number among U.S. cities for its foreclosure rate of 1 out of 21 homes.

How many new jobs have been created in the Treasure Valley by Mircon's recent performance? Have they rehired the 3000+ people that they laid (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3753055) off last year? Probably not considering an article in the Idaho Statesman (http://www.idahostatesman.com/2010/04/01/1137663/for-micron-its-time-to-celebrate.html) said "No one thinks Micron will return to its glory days as Idaho's largest private employer."

By the way, where did you get that Micron posted it's most profitable quarter ever? All I've been able to find is that it posted it's third consecutive profitable quarter after mounting losses beginning in 2006, and that at the beginning of this year Forbes listed it #17 of the 20 biggest money losers. That hardly refutes my perception of a tech boom gone bust. What Micron has going for it is an increased demand for microprocessors, of course the question that remains to be answered is will they fill that demand through U.S. labor sources, particularly in Boise, or cheaper foreign labor sources?
