Seeking Unique Children's Pastor

Inner-City Naz church in California seeking Pastor to Children and Families. Applicant must have clear call of God to minister to children.

Here are some highlights:

1. Neighborhood is 55% Hispanic, 35% African-American
2. High crime area--lots of gangs, drugs and destruction
3. 92% of births have no father in the home
4. Terrible school system with extremely high failure rates
5. Average age of first birth mothers - 15 years, 4 months

The city has arranged for remodeling of our old sanctuary into a gym and will run recreation programs after school. This will give us access to HUNDREDS of boys and girls.

We need a special person for this special task.

Sounds like a huge task. What sourt of resources will be available to the worker?

Hundreds of children coming though our gym each week for Parks and Rec programming, after school home work center, volunteers and a workable salary package.

I am not interested in interviewing anyone who does not have a specific call of God to children's ministry. This position is not designed to be a stepping stone to other ministry---we are looking for a "career" pastor to children and families.

David, Will the person be responsible for direct supervision of some programs, and supervision for staff for others?

Wondering if the person will have direct responsibility for rec programming?

The Rec Dept will run its own programs through the week, after school. Our staff person will have the opportunity to introduce the children and families to the life of our church. We will also run our own Upward Sports program, over which our staff person will have control.

Let me add...

we are beginning from ground zero. The Lord has blessed us in many ways over the past 4 years but...our children's program is less than zero, practically non-existant. We have been given a great facility that is now and will continue to attract hundreds of kids. We need someone who can make things happen---to begin an effective outreach to kids and families in the middle of the inner city.

Have a huge call to inter-city kids, growing up in southern california as a pastors kid seeing the heart that is needed. My husband is in the Army and so the limit is there for me, but I am a student at the Nazarene Bible college so I will also pass the word around there to my friends.
