Our Pastor's duaghter is in upstate New York training for the 2006 winter olympics. Her name is Kristen Rivera. She's been sending us updates and is having a blast. Her event???? Skeleton. Pray for her parents! She had the best time of all the runs yesterday and then began to get a bit overconfident and was more aggressive on her next run. She wiped out at 65 miles per hour! She's fine and said she would have been disappointed had she completed the training without incident.

Refresh my memory. Is Skeleton like the Luge, only head first? If that's true, no wonder they call it Skeleton.
Good for her! We'll be watching for her name!

I would say - she must be training in Lake Placid - and I think she is the sister-in-law of my nephew - let me see - is it Malden, Mass? I believe at one time it was the Granite Street church - which we attended when we went to ENC.

Yes to both of you!
Carol, who is your nephew?

Here is a picture I took last year -- not one of my better pictures, but it does show what she looks like.

The US coach pulled Kristen in his/her(?) office today and told her he wants to select her for the US Women's Skeleton team. (She hit 70 MPH today). While she is excited, she just got a teaching job and wants to make a good decision. Please be praying for this decision if you think of it.

Lake Placid isnt too far from my hometown! There is some very pretty countryside there, especially in the Adirondacks!

Correction- This is for the 2010 winter games. That changes some things. Still exciting however.

Jeff,
Thanks for the information. I remember Kristen from about 12 years ago. The Rivera's attended a church near west point, NY when he was in the military.
It will be a tough choice - teaching kids every day versus hurtling down an icy channel at 70mph. I hope she gets to do both.

... but that was when I was in grade school and I never did get asked to be on the team!
Seriously though, what a great honor for her whether she ends up going or not. (Though, like Dave, I hope she gets to go.)

Jeremy Patnode (and Nathan of course) are my nephews. Nathan is now an associate there. Bob - where are you from? We live in Cadyville.

HEY! I'm paying for that! :basic03
Not to mention I don't know who is going to be on the guest list
but I am sweating bullets with the number of churches and Nazarenes
that we know! (I wonder if I can convince them that pot luck is a
good Nazarene reception idea.) :fav18

By the way, Nate has been sneaking in here under a guest account, so
he'll see this anyway. And there are plenty of Nazarene spies in the
Nazarene underground anyway. Nothing is secret online!

Dave, good to hear from you.
Kristen has decided not to pursue Olympic Gold.:fav03 - That's my reaction, but we are all proud of her for what she accomplished. In a head to head race before she left training, she beat all the other athletes that were there. 11 in all!

Well, well, guess I had better be careful what I say here - may get back to the family. I talked to Sue yesterday about Kristin.
Just for your info, Mark, the Patnode/Bromley/Lombard family have some really good cooks!! Make sure you make it up to camp this summer.!!
