2010 NFL Draft

The draft happens this week. For the first time the first round will be broadcast on Thursday night in prime time. I will probably still watch the NBC comedy line-up, but I'll be following the picks.

While it appears the Rams will take Sam Bradford #1, this draft could be quite exciting and unpredictable. By this point most years the "experts" seems to be in relative agreement about the best players. So far it seems like no one is really sure what teams are doings, with lots of trades expected.

I'm in Kansas City, so there's a lot of talk about what the Chiefs will do with the 5th pick. I expect they'll try to trade down.

If the Chiefs can trade down and stay in the top 10 then I say great, other wise I'm hoping they take a OT at #5 if none has been taken or Berry the S out of Tenn.. As it stands now the Chiefs have 4 picks in the top 68 and 8 in the top 144.

I expect Friday night to be fun. There should be a lot of trades and having a night between round 1 and rounds 2 and 3 should make for some excitement.

Berry makes the most sense, but I don't see them paying that much for a rookie safety. Maybe they'll surprise us. Honestly, the best thing would be for someone to really, really want Jimmy Clausen and give them a first and second rounder for the pick.

Yeah, he's a great fit for the system and one of the top five players in this draft, there's just lots of NFL standard procedure that says you don't give a safety top 5 money. Trading would be ideal, but if they do pick I think Berry makes the most sense.

I am a huge NFL fan. As I've said before, my fandom has gradually shifted from baseball to football more and more each year. I've barely watched the Sox thus far this year. But I'll only miss the Pats if a church event comes up. I love being able to focus on but one game a week.

That said, I'm not into the NFL Draft nearly as much as others are. I pay more attention to the NBA Draft. I realize I'm an exception to many. I used to pass it off due to the fact that college football isn't much of anything in Boston, but that can't tell the whole story, because the NFL Draft is still pretty huge around here. I just don't seem to care as much. Perhaps it's because I feel like there's more chance involved in drafting successfully than what actually happens on the field.

Who knows, perhaps tonight's format will reel me in a bit more.

Yes, they traded down twice and up twice, but you can't look at it as a "break even" situation. After they traded down twice, they had three extra picks, one each in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds. They then traded all of those for Tim Tebow. Regardless of how they got there, you have to wonder first whether Tebow is worth those three picks, especially given the Bronco's offseason moves in the QB position, and second whether it was really necessary to trade up in order to get him. No other team took Tebow in the 1st round, nor were any of them really expected to do so. The Broncos most likely could have traded up for a pick in the early portion of the 2nd round and it would not have cost them as much. By making Tebow a 1st round pick, they pretty much have to make him a starter of some kind very soon, or there will be a lot of complaining about a bad pick on the part of both the fans and the organization.

Round two coming up, Clausen and McCoy both still on the board, and the Vikings have the 2nd pick of the round thanks to the Lions. Anyone guessing they were betting on neither the Colts nor Saints taking a QB?
I see no reason for the Rams not to trade down for a few extra picks, unless they're desperate to add a Taylor Mays to their squad. I wish some mock draft projectors would get gutsy and predict some trades.

I'd say that's the most likely, but I still feel like the Vikes would do well to take McCoy or Clausen. Favre won't be around more than 8-10 more years.

I'm sure they were safe in assuming that the Colts, Saints, and Rams would not be drafting a QB, so I don't doubt they'll look at a QB. Whether they prefer Clausen or McCoy, I couldn't say, cuz I'm not in their war room.

Everyone's up in arms here in KC. The Chiefs passed on some actual wide receivers for a 5'8" running back they plan to turn into a WR, but who wasn't supposed to be drafted until the third round. Then they took a CB.

Apparently the plan is to allow every team to run for 8 yds per attempt, but not throw at all.

I can't find the 85th pick on there anywhere, but it looks like at one point it was the Patriots', and then went to the Raiders before finding its way to the Browns. Regardless, I agree that this is a good value. McCoy easily could've been a first round or high second round pick if there were more teams seeking QBs.

Plus they selected him one spot behind his best friend and roommate, Jordan Shipley, which means there might be a little more fire to prove himself. Friendly rivalry is always good motivation.

The Chiefs don't seem to have any direction, the #36 choice makes no sense to me???

Evidently they think speed is important for their offense. If they believe McClusker can play slot receiver, then good for them. I'm willing to give Charlie Weis the benefit of the doubt for now. They did guarantee themselves a better return game for next year. I'm guessing Romeo Crennel thinks the front seven are a bit better than they played - maybe with some actual coaching they'll be able to stop the run?

I don't know, but I have taken to trusting the Eagles in their drafting procedure, so clearly there's something that Kafka has and Pike doesn't.

at this point, not only Mr. Irrelevant, but a fair number of undrafted signees can legitimately contend for roster spots.

Wow Cowboys got Dez Braynt WR OKIE STATE. Really surprised they got him...ws it a conspiracy to have Deion get him in trouble with NCAA to miss his sr season at OSU pushing his draft stock down to where the Cowboys could snag him? He should be a huge addition. Anyone need a WR? Dallas has six.
