Today I went shopping.
Lindsey & Bert also went shopping with me. That is always fun.
My favorite store was having 60% off sale, so I broke down and bought a new outfit for the concert next week.
Then Lindsey found some jeans, and Bert found two pairs of pants and a new jacket.
AND THEN -- we bought a new vacuum cleaner!!! YIPPEEEE!!
You are wondering why we bought a new one? Well, last weekend we moved Tyler into his new apartment, and I took our vacuum cleaner there because I figured we'd need it once we got boxes and all unpacked.
So I left it there for him. A nice vacuum just a few years old. For as often as he will use it (;) ), it will last him for several more years!
So today, they had the same vacuum on sale (just a newer model), and we bought it.
I can't believe I've gone a whole 10 days without a vacuum.
It will be nice to be without dog hair again tonight!!!
I was about to have to hang out a sign:
FREE TO GOOD HOME -- PILES OF DOG HAIR -- YOU HAUL.

... I mean this: "FREE TO GOOD HOME -- PILES OF DOG HAIR -- YOU HAUL."
yes, if you brush the dog outside, or take the resultant hair outside, it's often quickly picked up by the birds. Have you ever noticed all the hairy stuff in a nest, if it falls out of a tree ... or if it is low enough to see into it while yet in some tree? ;)

Uhhh, Gina.....you don't seem to understand, honey. ;) We DO brush our dogs outside. We brush them, and we brush them, and we brush them, and we brush them. We can brush them 24 hours a day, Gina, and we would still find PILES of dog hair in our house!! I just don't see how they do it, but they do -- they produce enough dog hair to make an entire new dog. We have to constantly keep on top of picking up the dog hair, whether with the vacuum or with a broom. It gets EVERYWHERE!!
Fortunately, the winter time is a bit easier on the dog hair. They don't shed nearly as much. But come February, we will be playing the DOG HAIR TUFT game again with Ebony. Her undercoat literally falls out in tufts. We have this game we play -- Lindsey sits on one end and feeds her treats, and I sit on the other end and pull tufts of hair out of her. And I literally fill up grocery bags of it every day during the spring. If we didn't play that game every day, those tufts would end up on my floor!!! Then after the game, Lindsey will brush her, and again, get yet another grocery bag full of hair. Seriously!!!! We could supply all the birds in North America with enough dog hair to make their nests!!!!!!!
If I had know the extent to which Ebony would shed, I would never have agreed to get her, quite frankly. I mean, I read and read and read about her breeds -- and yes, they did say that she would shed a LOT. But I just didn't GET IT, I suppose. When those articles stated that northern breeds shed A LOT, they really meant what they said!!!
BUT, of course, now that she's living here, of course we just love her to pieces and deal with the hair. We've become quite good at keeping it picked up nearly every day. Every once in a while, though, I forget to vacuum under something, and it is quite overwhelming when I find a pile of dog hair underneath something!!
There, that was my dog hair rant for the day!!! HA HA HA

I know that our Golden Retriever would shed alot. Brinx doesn't shed as much. He has periods of the year where his hair is more noticeable but for the most part it isn't too bad.
But I still wouldn't want to go ten days without a vacuum. I can't imagine what it must have been like for you :-)
Carl took Brinx to the Christian group home where he now works a couple of shifts a week, to help the church out financially.
Brinx returned from as one tired and happy dog. He lay down at 3:00 pm and didn't get up until supper time. He didn't even want to go out to do his business in the evening but just came up to bed.
The kids begged Carl to bring him back but Carl will try to let Brinx have a nap in the office for an hour or so this time. He's a pretty active dog but we have to remember that he is about 9 years old. (The SPCA where we got him didn't know his exact age).
But once again, the therapeutic value of dogs was seen. Carl said the boys responded so well to Brinx...it was a joy to see.

Now that's one loyal dog! He even gets a job when you need the money! :basic07

My dog (see avatar) likes to sit on the back of the couch that sits in front of the window, watching over the neighborhood. I don't very often move the couch to vacuum behind it, but when I do I find LOTS dog hair.
Gina, I never thought of taking the hair outside. I think I'll do that next spring for the birds.
