In case anyone is wondering, I'll put the word out here: The public library in Odon, Indiana is closed tonight, along with pretty much everything else in the area.
(The library staff is wimpy, and it turns out that library services are not necessarily considered essential in times of emergency.)

Has it been bad?...because it is coming our way this evening. The kids are starting to speculate about school. I told them not to get their hopes up!

Our schools dismissed early today. One school in the area has already announced a 2-hour delay for tomorrow morning. I'm not sure two hours will be enough to get things cleared up here. The county road crew won't go out until it quits snowing and they don't have lights on all of their equipment. (We don't get enough snow to justify the expenditure required to try to actually keep up with the snow.)
I just measured 2 1/2 inches and it's coming down pretty serious-like. Prediction was for 2 to 4 this afternoon and evening and maybe another inch overnight. Maybe there won't be any left for you, Cindi.

Marsha, it began snowing here about an hour ago. It is coming down steadily. They are predicting 5-7 inches for us. I love it; I made some chili, my wife is home, and we have a fire in the fireplace. Let it snow.

Started snowing in Sikeston early this morning. We have several inches to wish Stephen "Welcome Home From Iraq." It was a beautiful way to arrive home today.
Still coming down lightly at 3:10.

Here in Kansas City we got 10 inches of snow yesterday and last night. It took me two hours and 15 minutes to get home from work (usually about 25 min). And tonight it's supposed to drop to 6º below zero (F).

We got about 6.5 inches of taht fluffy white stuff. Now if only we could get the sidewalks shoveled!!! My landlord lives 5 hours away so we shall see if he has the snow removal situation "under control"

School was cancelled today. I came in to work, but I left about 1/2 hour after I usually do. The streets were plowed, even in our neighborhood. I wasn't sure if the church's parking lot would be plowed. The man that does it is very good about getting here early on Sundays, but it may be close to the bottom of his list on week days. I needn't have worried. He not only plowed, he shoveled the sidewalks. :)

We were out of school yesterday with about 2 inches of snow. We are not prepared in any way, shape or form to deal with snow here since we hardly ever get it.
The kids loved it, and so did our family who loves playing in the snow. My only compliant about living in the "Razorback" state is the lack of snow, so God is good.

ps were back in school today, the roads are clear and the snow is melting.

Glenn, I lived in Little Rock for 24 years and never got totally use to those steep hills. When I first moved there, my car had a standard transmission which I promptly traded for one with an automatic transmission. Our first house was in a subdivision that had to be accessed via Reservoir Road (otherwise known as Roller Coaster Road). Those steep descents and ascents could be downright scary at times but totally prohibited with even a hint of ice or snow. Rain wasn't even tolerated well on that road. Our last home was in a subdivision accessed by Napa Valley Drive which was almost as bad in places as Reservoir Road. Being stuck at the top or the bottom of a hill is not fun when Old Man Winter comes calling in L.R.
Almost all doctors and emergency personnel owned 4 wheel drive vehicles - even before they became chic. While living in L.R., more frequent brake maintenance/repair was required. I rarely have to get my brakes redone in this flatter terrain of OK and north TX.
People in the north part of the AR use to practically 'shut down' when the snow did arrive. They just didn't have equipment to handle it. Do you know if Eureka Springs businesses still close in the winter months? One thing for sure, however, is that Walmart does not cease or slow down operations. Somehow, vendors from all over the world make it to Walmart's headquarters in the icy months. :)
Perhaps you will get another snow day/s soon!

Hey, Pete! Take your multiplicity of grumpy exclamation points and get your own thread. This is the "let it snow" thread. It's for people who SMILE when it snows.

well, then, I'll have to find Pete's IHS thread, huh? 'Sure can't discuss my rather similar sentiments in this thread, I guess, eh? ;)

Hey, Pete, we got 12 inches yesterday and last night---and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Virginia and I put on our parkas and boots and went for a nice walk in it. Little traffic in that kind of snow event and it is quiet and you can hear the crunch of packing snow under foot. What a great time to walk. The flakes were a nice size and floated down--just a slight breeze. I also like Mike's idea of chili and a fire in the fireplace. Sounds like a good evening.
