Started with the Homecoming Chapel during which 5 alumni were honored for their achievements. A presentation by NNU alum and NASA astronaut, Rick Hieb telling of his experiences starting with his decision to attend NNU and his progress to NASA never intending to become an astronaut but getting selected anyway with video highlights of his space travel followed by a Q & A. Then a banquet honoring the 1956-57 men's basketball team which was the first Nazarene college team to compete in a National tournament (which was my freshman year) and the 1997 women's basketball team which did win the NAIA National Championship. All in all an enjoyable day for this old NNC alum. Their was a concert for those who did not attend the banquet. Tomorrow NNU hosts the Western regional Cross Country Finals and the Men's and Women's first basketball games.

I thought they always had homecoming over Thanksgiving weekend. My dad will probably be at the basketball games. I think he has season tickets.

Jim,
I glad you had a chance to be there today. I have to correct one fact however. NNC was not the first Nazarene college team to play in the NAIA National Basketball Tournament. Pasadena College and the "Firehouse Five" played in the NAIA Tournament in 1953 and 1954. Bob Hopkins, John Davis, Ralph Leach, Teddy Cummins and Doyle Cozzens were the starters on the "Firehouse Five" and "PazNaz" was known all over the Southern California area as a great, great team.

Jim, that is information of which I was unaware. Charlene, I do not attend basketball games anymore because it just gets tooooo noisy for my auditory nerves.

Here is why I didn't bother going to my 20 year reunion at NNU this year.
Londa and I went to parents weekend at St. John's College (http://www.stjohnscollege.edu/) where our son Josh is a freshman. On Friday, we spent some time in class watching the students participate in their seminars. Saturday we went and watched Josh and his crew team race in the "Head of the Occoquan" regatta. While we missed the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, we really had a good time being with our son that weekend.
I've included some pictures:
The first three are of Josh during parents weekend. In the first photo Josh is 2nd from the bow, they finished with their best time of the season and placed 9th of 19 in the novice category. The second photo is of Josh in the lobby of the school auditorium, and the third is him helping carry the boat down to the launch dock.
The last two photos were taken this past weekend when he was home during Thanksgiving break. He brought his books home and spent quite a bit of time studying when he had the chance. In this photo he is working on a geometry assignment from Euclid's Elements.
