So, uhhhh, what do the other 4% do? Use jam instead of jelly?
And ... is that statistic inclusive? (i.e. both creamy and crunchy?)

Right! Peanut oil is so strong that, even if one wipes the knife first, it can leave a PB taste in the next thing in which it is used ... butter ... jam ... jelly.
[rarely do PB & jam/jelly myself; tend to do them separately] ;)

I find if you put the jam on first the bread gets a little soggy. The peanut butter is a good sealant.

I am a dedicated Peanut Butter fanatic. If I could sleep in a vat of peanut butter, I'd think I was in heaven. Unfortunately, PB doesn't share the love. When migraines were at their worst, I discovered that PB was a migraine trigger. Then when migraines improved, I could resume my daily consumption of toast and peanut butter for breakfast. Ah, the joy. But then for some strange reason this past year [ever since last December] I couldn't understand why my thyroid has not only worsened...but dropped so fast in ability to function that not even increases in medication seemed to have an effect. As a friend was praying for me about this last week, it dawned on me that I had read somewhere that peanuts were a goitrogenic food. Bottom line, that means they interfere with my thyroid medication. It was back in December that I started to eat my beloved pb daily again. Sigh... I went off of it this weekend and it is remarkable how much energy I have today.
C'est la vie!

Peanut butter and honey sandwhiches were a staple in our house when I was growing up.
It is still my ultimate comfort food. But I have to drink a lot of liquid with it because of my esophageal issues. The peanut butter/honey/bread combo has a tendancy to get "stuck" :)

Like it that way, too ... I eat PB & honey (buy spun from a rather local place in the jar) on my really healthy 12-grain/6gr fiber/slice bread. ;)
How's that for contrast? The PB & honey remind me of my favorite fudge when together, but that candy-tasting delicacy is eaten on the most healthy bread I can find around here, too.

Sort of like tar, eh? :laughing
EDITED TO ADD: The natural, to me, is so much better than the stuff where they take peanut oil out, add other oil(s), sugar, etc. Yes, it will separate, but if it's stirred well, then refrigerated (but then one wants to try to remember to take it out awhile before eating it, so it's not so cold that it makes cold toast!), it stays well. CREAM NUT, especially grinds it to not such a fine grind that it separates into all oil on top, and a hard "glump" hardly able to stir on the bottom. When ground a wee bit less fine (but still creamy), it seems to stay a bit more homogenized.

Have heard that it's a risky food, as good as it tastes, since sometimes the peanuts will develop mold, being underground. So, perhaps if they're roasted at a high enough temp it kills some of this? Anyway, I sporadically eat it ... sometimes leave it alone for a long time, then sometimes seem to not be able to get enough.

Whew! I am really glad we got that crazy election stuff out of the way so we can get back to the important issues of life. :basic05 No really. I think peanut butter is best on the spoon just out of the drawer. It's difficult not to double dip cause its soooooo good but after years of disciplined practice I have it down to a science.

Second favorite is just peanut butter on bread and dipping the bread in milk.

Amidst all this delightful and obviously serious discussion re:peanut butter and its various accompaniments, have a thought for the children of N. America for whom peanuts are a deadly allergen. It's hard to imagine, and I don't know where it came from; in my youth, a few decades ago, I never heard of such a problem, but today, in my home area of the GTA (not terribly far from Barbara's area), there are schools where it is forbidden to bring anything "tainted" with peanuts to school; no pb sandwiches for lunch, no peanut butter cookies; I a have a hard time visualizing life without these God-given delights: real comfort food, yet there is one family in a school where I have worked for whom peanuts are just that: a potentially fatal allergen, and I think for every one of the children.
Be thankful that you can still still enjoy the stuff.
BTW, did anyone mention peanut butter and banana and Kraft Miracle Whip sandwiches?

Had to click the funny button along with the thanks for the info button, since it struck my funny bone, remembering my dog ... she liked it, but then sometimes rather than just trying to get it eaten by mouth gyrations, she might try to put her paw in her mouth to get at what was "bugging" her. On top of a slice of bread, put regular butter.
On that spread some good homemade jam or jelly, like grape or raspberry.
Next, cut up a banana, and put slices on top of jellied bread.
Lastly, spread a little white sugar on bananas.
Thats what we called a jelly banana sandwich!!! It is yummy!

Those of us who put jelly on top of the peanut butter would know that you can't do things out of order. Peanut butter after politics is just correct. Sometimes you have to do the unimportant things first, to lay a base for those things that are absolutely essential.
Further, after politics, anybody can be an authority on anything. You don't see millions of caustic emails going around about peanut butter, do you?

My contribution to the PB discussion:
Use it as a spread:
1. Get a knife and spread PB on your banana as you eat it.
2. Ditto with apples.
Use it as a dip:
See above, except dip instead of spreading.
Use it as glue:
1. If you don't have a chocolate bar for a microwave S'more, spread peanut butter on a graham cracker and it will hold chocolate chips in place under the marshmallow during the microwave process.
2. Use it in food artwork to hold chocolate chips or raisins or any other tidbit in place. It goes well with many fruits and vegetables.
I have seen Vegemite in Australian culture likened to peanut butter in the U.S. in its ubiquity on the pantry shelves of citizens, but I ask you, can Vegemite fill such diverse roles as peanut butter?

Ewww, Bob! The jam/jelly are already really sweet, the banana's sweet, so methinks adding sugar would be a wee bit over the top ... just adding the gritting texture that sugar would add might be why it's done ... for that "crunch"?
Further, after politics, anybody can be an authority on anything. You don't see millions of caustic emails going around about peanut butter, do you?
