NBC Is Touting Its "Green" Programming (http://www.nbc.com/)
Is that a gimmick or can TV programs really make a difference?

1. Gimmick? Absolutely.

2. Can it make a difference? Big business didn't get to be big by being stupid. Greedy, yes, but stupid, no. And they think that TV makes a difference, to the tune of $2.6 million dollars for thirty seconds of advertising during the Super Bowl. We spend more on TV advertising in this country annually than we spend to fund our public colleges and universities. If it doesn't make a difference, the guys buying all that ad time are sure stupid.

They did commit to turning off the bright lights when they're off the air. I'm sure it's not much, but it's something and something practical to boot?
