(Disclaimer -- I'm losing it!!! They're tearing up my kitchen -- water leak -- so I'm sitting here locked in my office as much as possible so I don't have to watch!!!)
OK, picture this -- bunch of kids sitting in a circle, cross-legged.
They start clapping their hands against their thighs as one person sort of chants, like this (clip-clop is the sound of their hands against their thighs, okay?)
CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP
I'M GOIN' LION HUNTIN'
CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP
I'M NOT AFRAID
CLIP-CLOP CLIP
I'VE GOT MY TRUSTY GUN
CLIP-CLOP CLIP
AND MY BULLETS BY MY SIDE
CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP
CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP CLIP-CLOP
And then something happens after that, but I can't remember.
Then they go bear hunting, etc.
Does anyone remember playing this???

What GREAT memories : )
Our version was Goin' on a Bear Hunt...my 18 year old nephews still ask me to do it for the younger children...
Going on a Bear Hunt (echo after each phrase) Gonna get a big one, I'm not afraid, What's that up ahead? A gate? Can't jump over it. Can't go under it. Gotta go through it. Walk up to the gate, open the gate, walk through the gate, close the gate, Whew! I'm not afraid
(Repeat the Going on a Bear Hunt part for each verse)
...What's that up ahead? Grass? Long wavy grass, can't jump over it, can't go under it, gotta go through it, walk up to the grass, walk through the grass (rub palms together while saying swish swish, swish, swish) Whew! I'm not afraid!
...What's that up ahead? Mud? Thick black mud, can't jump over it, can't go under it, gotta go through it(cup hands and "clop" together while saying ew, ew, ew, ew, ew), Whew! I'm not afraid!
...What's that up ahead? A River! Can't jump over it, can't go under it, gotta swim through it (make swimming motions while saying swim, swim, swim, swim, swim), Whew! I'm not afraid!
...What's that up ahead? Sticker Bushes? with a shaky voice.....can't jump over them, can't go under them, gotta go through them...put index and thumb together and make poking motions while saying ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow) Whew! I'm not afraid!
Going on a Bear hunt, gonna get a big one, I'm not afraid, What's that up ahead? A Cave? Can't jump over it, can't go under it...gotta go in it...(make click/clock sound with tongue)
( voice quivering) Two big shiny eyes...one big wet nose...big long teeth...A BEAR!!!!!!!! RUUUUNNNNN!!!!!!!!! (now do everything in reverse and three times as fast....go out of the cave/through the sticker bushes/swim the river/through the mud/ through the grass/ through the gate...close the gate...WHEW! I'M NOT AFRAID!
1996 - My daughter Bethany and my sister Lisa's three boys...and yes...they are Goin' on a Bear Hunt!

yup, I remember the bear hunt version.
The question of the day Shea...did you "lead" the hunt...or are you young enough that you actually went "on" the hunt : )

We played it at summer camp every year -- even at teen camp. This was at the Nazarene campgrounds near Holland, Michigan. I'd forgotten. Thanks for the little bit of nostalgia, Dana!

I have vague memories of something similar to that, but I don't think it was a bear/lion hunt. I don't remember what it was.
I'm 35 and grew up in central Illinois & northwest Indiana.
