First off, I do not need any suggestions to switch to Word, okay?
:)
I get enough of that harassment from certain unnamed family members and friends.
I’ve got a problem within Word Perfect that I cannot resolve.
Here goes. Doing my best to describe.
When I open a DIRECTORY - let’s say it’s named NELSON (how clever of me) and then one of the many folders within that directory, such as HYMNS and then within that folder another folder named READY
Got that - - -
DIRECTORY - NELSON
- - - - - - - - - HYMNS
- - - - - - - - - - READY
And I’m working within the READY folder, and I want to SAVE a hymn and the CLOSE it, Word Perfect is taking me all the way back to the directory - NELSON - and I have to start all over, following the thread by opening HYMNS and then the READY folder.
Does that make any sense?
I want to STAY inside that folder - READY - and work there and then when I’m finished I can shut down all the way back to the NELSON directory.
Does anyone have any idea how I can default Word Perfect, to keep me there inside that folder until “I” choose to leave?
Thanx

Nelson, I have WordPerfect 12, which should be similar.
I'm assuming that your WordPerfect default folder is "NELSON" (example).
You really don't want to change that because then EVERY document your subsequently create will default to the new folder.
And I know of no way to make a simple "chose directory" before saving an individual document.
I would suggest doing it this way, which may not be that different than what you already are doing.
Create a new document, save it as a blank document (with a name) before you start typing, and when the default folder comes up in the menu, just click on the necessary sub folders to get to "READY" and save it.
This is basically what you are doing now, and it really should not take but a few seconds to get there.
Then, when you save the typed document and make any changes, it will automatically go to the "READY" folder.
Hope this helps.
I, too, cannot find a way to change my "default" folder, but I'm used to its location, so that is not a problem.
I guess that you will just have to live with it!
And why don't you just change to Word???
(NOT)... I feel the same way about it that you do.
Oh, BTW .. WordPerfect 12 lets you save as a WORD document.

We also prefer Word Perfect over Word. I have Word Perfect suite which has version 11. I recently upgraded from version 9 when we bought our new laptops. When I open or save a file from a certain directory, the next time I access the save or open icon, it takes me back to the last directory/folder that I was in. I'm not sure what the problem is. I will try to think about it and let you know.

Nelson,
I just thought of a way to get around your problem... (I think)
Save a blank document into the "READY" folder, giving the document some clever name like "Hymns,"
Then, when you want to type a new "hymn" document, pull that one up and do a "save as" so that it goes back into the "READY" folder.
THEN, within that document, click on "File" "send to" and choose "Desktop." That should create a desktop icon that will take you to that blank document, which you will need to "Save As" the new hymn document, preferably before starting to insert any data. (Prevents it being saved under the old name.)
Hope this helps.

I see the same thing as Mark, although I'm not sure I actually have WordPerfect 10 on anything right now. I have 8 at the library, 11 on my laptop, and 12 (I think) on my home desktop. Isn't backward compatibility wonderful?
You might try starting WordPerfect by opening a file in the Ready directory. (You can create a shortcut to that opening file on your desktop or somewhere else convenient.) I think that forces the default for saves to that directory. If that doesn't work, the work-around that I've put into use in other situations where I'm dealing with defaults that are annoying but which I can't or don't want to change, is to create a shortcut to the folder I want in the default directory. Thus, I have a program that puts reports in a sub-sub-sub-directory of the Program Files directory. I want to open those reports in a spreadsheet. So I created a shortcut to the Reports folder in the MyFiles directory that QuattroPro uses for a default. In your case, you would open up Windows Explorer (ctrl-E), locate the Ready folder, right-click on it and drag it into the MyFiles folder (or whatever your default is called) and choose "create a shortcut here" from the resulting pop-up menu.
You certainly won't get any flack from me about WordPerfect, Nelson. I love it. My most frequently used computer program is QuattroPro, the spreadsheet in the WordPerfect Suite. I've used it for ages and have no complaints about it. However, I have to use Excel for various things for the library. I'm aware of the differences between the two programs and see them as on the same level. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. I switch back and forth with only minor irritations over the differences, although I consistently choose QuattroPro when I have the option because I'm more familiar with it. However, for word processing, there is NO COMPARISON between Word and WordPerfect in my mind. Every time I try to use Word I end up stomping away in frustration. "Reveal codes" alone makes WordPerfect by far the superior program before we even start to discuss anything else.
Long live WordPerfect!!

But I can't say too much. My wife has vers. 8 on her computer, and I have version 12 on my desktop and laptop.

Long live WordPerfect!! AMEN!
I don't use the QuatroPro spreadsheet very much, but I found that when I did, I could convert Excel spreadsheets to QuatroPro. Now, my latest version of Lotus can interpret Excel, so I use that.
And, Nelson, I trust that you have found a solution to your dilemna from all this good advice.:basic01
