After all of the publicity about lead painted toys and their recall which were manufactured in China a local news report here said that a woman got concerned about whether her dishes that were made in China might also have lead in their decorative painting and took them to a lab to be tested. They were found to have lead which could leach into food and be harmful. Buy American.

Buy American.
That would be much easier if "American" companies would stop offshoring jobs! :basic04

True here , as well. Recent Marketplace show told how things can be labeled " product of Canada " as long as over 50 % of the cost of the item was incurred in Canada. So ice cream labeled made in Canada may be made with milk solids from England or Australia but since the packaging ( over 50 % of the cost ) was done in Canada , its made in Canada ! Hard to trust any labels these days .

Yes but if you can label Australian solids as made in Canada you are in front :basic03.
"Australian Made" or "Made in Australia" labels have about the same commitment to content as you have said for made in Canada, but they have introduced a new label that is "product of Australia" and to wear this label means the product must be 100% Australian.

You would have to eat a couple of plates for the lead to harm you. We are surounded by lead in our dailly lives and many of us are unaware and undamaged. For example, fine crystal that many people recieved for weddinging gifts have lead in them and many people drink from leaded crystal every day with no harmful effects. My wife, who is a third year medschool student was telling me that her instructors we upset with the media for creating a panic over something that is insignificant. More children will be brought in the hospital due the toy being chocked on rather than lead poisoning.
