Imagine a mad scientist movie in which the scientist seeks to find a cure for the 'sin gene' and you have this movie. If you like those weird sci-fi movies that have a religious subtext, then you'll like this movie.
Imagine the movie 'Jurassic Park' except with humanoid monsters having varying levels of intelligence and less distinct barriers between the people and the animals.
Dr. Moreau uses genetic manipulation, social engineering and even religious systems to suppress human violent instinct but fails on all counts.
The mad scientist in Jurassic Park (the film) becomes an object of pity and survives, but Dr. Moreau is not so lucky.
I think the premise of the movie had possibilities, but I came away with the feeling that it fell far short. The descent into chaos and/or insanity is not such an easy thing to write into a story and this film is no Shakespearean tragedy.
