Thanks to Jonathan for pointing out features on my camera that I didn't know how to use. Check these three photos.
1. Taken with my "Architecture" feature, which I like because of the guidelines my camera provides, and it works well.
2. Taken with automatic White balance mode in regular camera mode.
3. Taken with white balance "incandescent" setting.
Now, all I need to do is think (then find the right setting) before I shoot!

Mark,
If you look at the last picture (on the calendar) you can see a slight color cast coming from the green lampshade... otherwise it's got really nice color.
The second photo has a pink/orange color cast - so it's close to accurate color.
The first shot has a yellow color cast.
I think that you'd be better off using a custom setting or the incandesent (in a pinch).

Mark,
Another option would be to see if you have a "Fill flash" setting...
That would allow the main exposure to be determined by the existing light and the flash would "supplement" that light...
Good trick using the timer, it can be very hard to hold a point and shoot still enough when shooting in low light.
1. Make sure that you brace yourself and camera against something if possible.
2. Try squeezing the shutter button instead of jabbing at it...
3. Use the strap to create some added tension for additional support.
You may only have a "point and shoot" camera... but I've seen some really nice work with your name attached!
