I thought I would try my hand at a movie review.
Underworld Evolution is a direct sequel to Underworld which both of which are action movies with horror elements rather than horror movies.
The film opens with a flashback to the 1200s where a battle between vampires and werewolves has begun. William the first werewolf is imprisioned and Marcus, the first vampire is brought to heel by Viktor.
Going forward to modern times we meet Corvous, the first immortal who had three sons, William, Marcus and a mortal son who has descendants into modern times. He runs an organization that keeps knowledge of the vampire/werewolf conflict from the public knowledge by erasing all physical evidence and silencing human witnesses through threats or money or both.
Viktor was killed by his protege Selene whose family was all killed by Viktor who passed himself off as her rescuer. She has been driven by hate until
she discovered that it was Viktor who killed her family, all in the previous film. Micheal Corvin, the human descendant of Corvous has been bitten by both a werewolf and a vampire and has become a very powerful hybrid.
Both he and Selene are on the run because of Viktor's death.
Meanwhile, Marcus has been awakened from his centuries of slumber and has killed everyone at the mansion retreat of the vampires. He seeks the keys that will enable him to free his brother. There are terrific fight scenes
between Selene, Micheal and Marcus in a truck. Selene, as a Death Dealer is terrific in combating Marcus as oppossed to the usual heroine who has to be rescued by the hero.
There is an objectionable nude scene that a skip on my DVD player and another similar scene.
Events lead up to a confrontation with Corvous who refuses to kill his sons.
Marcus attacks Selene and Micheal and obtains the key to William prison and leaves Micheal for dead before mortally wounding his father. Corvous insists on having Selene drink his blood which greatly increases her vampiric strength and follows Marcus's trail to the prison where a battle royal ensues.
Micheal turns out to be alive after all and when the battle is over Selene discovers that sunlight no longer is no longer harmful to her.
Action scenes are very well done but not horrific. As befits the modern age we have computers, safe houses, guns and grenades used by the heroes so it is more an action movie than a horror film.
Rated R.
