here is web site about them (i am stretching my horticulture knowledge base..which is pretty narrow)

First photo is of the architecture for which Balboa Park is known

The roses were, as expected in December, a bit ragged..here are a few of the better ones and an orchid and a species of the Coleus family

Judy, What amazing jewel tone colors you have in all the photos, even the architectural one! I love them a lot! Thanks for posting.

Thanks Andrea..the bright and varied colors also caught my eye..all of the plants were indoors except for the rose garden. I am glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks for the compliment Jim..when i was taking the photos i was
surrounded by hoards of grade school students. They were interested wanting
to look at each photo..
and were free, almost in chorus, with their oohs and ahhs
I think they viewed the plants with a bit more admiration after our encounter

Judy,
Your remarks reminded me of a field trip with the 4H photo project...
We were giving a mini lesson to the kids when we noticed that there seemed to be many more people present... it turns out that a local camera club was there as well, when they saw us demonstrating the use of a fill reflector they joined our group. So instead of working with the 30 kids we had about 40 adults also asking questions!
I think that you'll find the 60mm lens to be wonderful to use! Macro is so much fun! You learn quickly just how much depth of field you have...
Beautiful pictures as always!

Judy,
I love the idea to doing a photo workshop...
As far as when and where??? That would take some planning!
Wisconsin is a nice place to visit (during summer and fall)...???

give serious thought to meeting up in Utah and doing Canyon Buttes and
the Wave. I can do this the first week in May..which is almost as late as one would
want to hike in southern Utah
If others would join..we could pay you by the day..Have to be at least
three or four to make it worth your time and effort.
Motels are not too outrageous in Page Arizona..which is where the
Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons are located
and Canyon Buttes is also close to Kanab, Utah..about an hour drive
to Bryce Canyon and to Zion here are some teasers..
how about it Dana .. are you game??

another option is to meet in Colorado east of Interstate 25
between the Springs and Pueblo at Great Sand Dunes National Park..
it is an indescribable phenomenal piece of USA geography

I can do this one as late as April..or late April
all of these dates are couched around my daughter's due date for granddaughter
number three
now if we wait until autumn of 2008 I am in California..and can do Yosemite
or even early May would be when the waterfalls are at their best...
it is really crowded in the summer

there is a meadow near the southern entrance of Yosemite that begs me
to return for a do-over:basic02
this is enough options to ponder..doesn't have to happen in 2008..
but this is do-able and would be great if well planned, maybe Dave would
join us with his D-300:basic01

This is really tempting!!!
I'll start looking at my schedule to figure out when it would work for me!!!
I'm sure that others would be interested????
