Me and Olivia, and sometimes just Olivia! (6 weeks old)
The last one is what she thinks about all the fuss she gets from us all.

Such smart people have been born in December.

Mark, she looks like a little doll. She probably feels like a soft, floppy, cuddly bean bag, when you hold her. But, I guess she is not doing much flopping around yet.

Since you have a young man on your avatar, I could never picture your being a grandfather. We were 50 before our first grandchild was born.

Olivia is like a floppy doll now but I am looking forward to when Papa and she can go for a walk, get an ice cream, or play a trick on Grandma.

Do I look like a grandpa in the first picture?

I really like my avatar picture; I am about 5 or 6 in it. For me, it is a reminder that every one of us was once a child and has a child still within them. It also reminds me that life is short, so I should try to be as wide-eyed as possible as I pass through it.

Here I will include my own baby picture, taken 48 years and 1 day ago, on my very own "birth" day.

Made me realise, nobody actually calls one's real day of birth, one's birthday! Language is a weird thing.

P.S. Today (December 15) is my father's 77th birthday. His sister Ruth celebrated her 71st birthday yesterday (same as mine).

The story goes that my mother was induced to have me. I already had two brothers, and perhaps I would be their first girl and give Aunt Ruth a namesake. At about 2:30 in the afternoon, I announced that my generation would be a fraternity (and had one other brother a couple of years later). Had I been born a few hours later on my father's birthday, the pressure would have been great to name me Russell III. That distinction passed to my younger brother, when Mom thought by naming him Russell, they'd stop having more children! Four boys in under 6 years!

I've thought about it over the years, and Dad has, too. For my thoughts, I think naming me Russell might have put pressure on me to follow Dad into the [professional] ministry, and I am content with the ministries that I am permitted to perform when opportunity arises. I do not think that I missed my calling. (We are not all clergy, but we all should be ministers.) Perhaps it counts that I have two sons-in-law in that profession, and I am happy to support the work my father has to offer for the sake of His kingdom.
