My son and I are enjoying going to Sunday services, but we're starting to see a problem. One of the reasons I wanted to go - beyond worshipping with other people - was for my son to be with other kids in his age range. He is home-schooled, and I want him to have socialization opportunities.

I brought him to Sunday school and he was not that happy. I brought him again and poked my head in for a while. There are a number of kids that appear to be in the Kindergarten to second grade range. There was one kind in fourth grade. That's closer. My son is in the 6th grade and will be 12 in February. I haven't seen any kids in the 5th, 6th, or 7th grades at church. Not in Sunday school. Not in children's worship. Not Sunday night. I know I'll have to call and simply ask.

What do you do when there is that big a gap in ages? He is really too old for the Sunday school class, but too young for the teen group.

Our church has 0 teens& 3 school age kids. We take dgd, age 3. We are planning to start some back yard bible clubs to "find" some kids and get ss rolling, Lord willing.

How about something like that to "find" kids your son's age so you can start a ss class for his age group?

We have had that problem before. When we have had only one 6th grader we allowed her to go into the teen class, explaining that it still meant she would have to attend pre-teen church camp and could not participate in the district teen activities during her 6th grade year. We asked the teen teacher if he minded and then the Sunday School board discussed it with the pastor.

That worked out well. So, if your church has a junior high teen class, I would ask the pastor about allowing your son to attend that class. If the teen class is mostly junior and seniors, then it would not be as accepted.
